— Part 5: Specification for door central power locking systems for passenger cars and car derived vehicles 1) ; — Part 6: Specification for door dead locking systems for passenger cars and car derived vehicles 1) A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application C ompliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, page and a back cover This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover 1) ii In preparation © BSI 02- 2000 Li cen sed Copy: Lon d on Sou th Ban k U n i versi ty, Lon d on Sou th Ban k U n i versi ty, Sat Dec 09 02: 04: 56 G M T+00: 00 2006, U n trol l ed Copy, (c) BSI BS AU 209-3:1 988 Scope 3.2 Size of marking ± mm This Part of BS AU 09 specifies requirements for Characters used for marking shall be the security marking of the glazing fitted to in height passenger cars and car derived vehicles 3.3 Legibility This standard does not apply to the markings Marking shall be legib le from outside the vehicle at identifying the glazing manufacturer or indicating a distance of m under normal daylight viewing compliance with national or international conditions requirements for safety glazing materials Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BS AU 09 the following definitions apply 3.4 Depth of marking 3.4.1 Where the marking is physically engraved into the outer or inner glazing surface the depth of marking shall be: 01 mm minimum 2.1 security marking a mark applied to the glazing in a vehicle using a controlled engraving system which provides a means of identifying that vehicle and which cannot be easily removed by grinding or polishing 08 mm maximum 3.4.2 The depth of marking shall be measured using a gauge with a stylus which has a tip radius not exceeding mm 3.4.3 Where chemical etching is used, the depth of marking shall b e either: 2.2 engraving system a system of marking into the glass surface using either a physical or chemical method a) as specified in 3.4.1 ; or b ) less than 01 mm provided it is engraved into the inside of the glazing 3.5 Position of marking 2.3 daylight opening that part of the glazed area in a vehicle which is not ob scured b y the vehicle b odywork, trim or printed ob scuration b and when the glazing is in the closed 3.5.1 For systems complying with 3.4.1 , the marking on opening glazing shall be positioned within 30 mm of the b ottom of the daylight opening and be legib le from outside the vehicle On fixed glazing, the marking shall be positioned position within 30 mm of the b ottom or top of the daylight Security marking 3.1 Security mark opening 3.5.2 For systems complying with 3.4.3 , the marks shall be positioned within an area which is 30 mm Each piece of external safety glazing material shall from the lower edge of the daylight opening be marked with a security mark which shall b e and 70 mm from its adj oining side, and shall b e either: legib le in accordance with 3.3 a) the vehicle registration number;
