Difficuties in collocations Challenges in prepositions Obstacles in Idioms Challenges in Tenses Problems in Passive voice Obstacles in Countble and Uncountble Nouns Obstacles in transalting cultural aspects vii CHAPTER 1: OVERVIEW OF STUDY 1.1 Rationale News is one of the most important things in most people’s lives No matter what we for a living, chances are we are engaged with the news at some level on a daily basis On most days of the week, something is happening on a local, regional, national or global scale that merits headline coverage For a lot of people, the first question that comes to mind each morning is, “What are the latest news headlines?” Whether a particular news item is exciting and uplifting, tragic and scary, or sensationalistic and trivial, it’s likely to be a topic of conversation at some point in the hours and days ahead between you and your friends, family, and work colleagues, as well as random strangers at grocery stores and coffee shops One of the biggest benefits of reading news on a regular basis is doing so keeps us informed of all the latest world events Depending on what’s currently happening in the world, the news could involve matters of high consequence, such as war, climate, the economy, and national elections, or topics that are arguably more trivial, such as political sex scandals, celebrity gossip, and debates on minor issues This news might impact the country directly, so they have to convey the right message However, in Vietnam, not all people can read and understand fully and accurately English documents that contain difficult terms and phrases except the young people and intellectuals who have good English A person who can speak, listen and read English does not mean he or she understands it carefully One more problem that we have to face here is the necessity for translating skills When becoming a content creator at ByteSoft, it has more and more requirements for them to have expert translation skills to meet the demand of integration into the huge world news The global market works throughout day and more and more important news are released, so it is necessary to translate them exactly in order to avoid regrettable misunderstanding When translating English into our mother tongue, it is not only translating the words we are reading but also the meaning and the overall purpose of the text as a whole This can be very difficult, even for those who are fluent in several languages Moreover, there are many differences between the Vietnamese and English translation of news in several aspects News has its own characteristics, features, and language In addition, it is subject to the ideology to which the translator is subject to Many difficulties may arise during such a process of translation Understanding these difficulties in the process of translating, ideas promote me to carry out this study: “A study on difficulties in translating English news into Vietnamese experienced by content creators at ByteSoft Incubation Hub” This study attempts to find out the difficulties which face content creators while translating news Analyzing the different techniques used, and trying to give solutions and advices to solve those difficulties Hope that the study will be a useful reference helping improve translation skill as well as shed the light on the semantic changes that take place during the translation process Therefore, content creators can have adjusted their method to remove the obstacles when conveying the source language into the target language 1.2 Previous study 1.2.1 Translation in Global News by Bielsa, Esperanỗa & Bassnett, Susan (published in London: Routledge - 2009) Translation in Global News examines how news agencies, probably the most powerful organizations in the field of global news, have developed historically and how they conceive of and employ translation in a global setting Incorporating the results in major global news organizations such as Reuters, Agence France-Presse, and Inter Press Service, this book addresses the new pressures facing translation as the need for a flow of accurate information which must transfer successfully across geographic, linguistic, and cultural boundaries becomes increasingly more important Bringing together the common concerns of globalization studies, media studies, sociology, and translation studies, Translation in Global News is the first text of its kind to deal extensively with the issue of translation in the context of global news and will be key reading for students of translation studies, media studies, and journalism, as well as anyone with an interest in how news is transferred around the world
