Summary: A suitable calculation procedure for the slope stability which takes into
account the existence of unsaturated soils in Vietnam condition is presented in this
paper. The suitability include: 1) the selection of methods for estimating
unsaturated soil mechanical properties for the slope stability analyses; and 2)
selection of the suitable software program for slope stability. The proposed
calculation procedure was applied for calculation of the slope stability at the
Luongson district, Hoabinh province which takes into account the effect of weather.
The calculation results show that the factor of safety decrease when the number of
continous raining days increase or the slope angle increase. In addition, slip
surface appears to be shallow as observed in the field.
