INTRODUCTION St Cloud Technical and Community College (SCTCC) is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, equitable, and supportive environment for its students, faculty, and staff SCTCC acknowledges and embraces diversity as one of its core values SCTCC is dedicated in implementing sustainable programs to cultivate and foster a culture of mutual respect and understanding OVERVIEW OF THE DIVERSITY PLAN As part of Charting the Future, the goal of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities in terms of diversity is to reduce and eliminate the student success gap for students of color SCTCC will achieve this goal by addressing the following areas: Work with partners to reduce and eliminate the student success gap Increase diversity of students and strategies for retention Increase diversity of faculty and staff and strategies for retention Build effective partnerships with communities of color Ensure a supportive and welcoming environment The SCTCC Diversity plan is Diversity: Diversity encompasses acceptance and respect It means understanding that each individual is unique, and our individual differences need to be recognized These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies Inclusion: Inclusion is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing (accepting) and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual Equity versus Equality: Equity is the proportional distribution or parity of desirable outcomes across groups Sometimes confused with equality, equity refers to outcomes, while equality connotes equal treatment Where individuals or groups are dissimilarly situated, equal treatment may be insufficient for or even detrimental to equitable outcomes Campus Climate: Campus climate is a measure—real or perceived—of the campus environment as it relates to interpersonal, academic and professional interactions It refers to the experience of individuals or groups at the institution as they interact with community members A healthy campus climate is one in which people feel welcome, safe and valued In an
