students to be valued and productive members of society, with ambitions to change the world We are seeking to recruit an Evening Caretaker to undertake general caretaking duties and be responsible, as part of a small team, for looking after the University Buildings The duties are varied and will include unloading and delivery of goods, fire alarm tests, un-setting/setting alarms, record keeping, cleaning, painting and working from ladders, steps and towers You will also carry out security duties including locking and securing of buildings The ability to work independently and flexibly, with excellent interpersonal skills, a conscientious, professional attitude and the ability to drive the University van is essential You will join the 24/7 call out rota and therefore you must live within Reports to: Duty Manager Job purpose Undertake general caretaking duties and ensure the security of the Estate Main responsibilities • Undertake general caretaking duties including the clearing of guttering, drains and sewers • Security of the Estate, including the setting of the alarm system and correctly responding to any incident or emergency • Be a member of the Estates Team 24/7 Call Out rota • Undertake general portering duties • Drive the University Van as required • Carry out testing of the Fire Alarm System and assist with fire drills • Work other shift patterns, including Sundays as required • Work overtime as required • Assist with cleaning duties • Undertake duties requiring the use of ladders, steps and towers • Assist the Maintenance Team in the execution of their duties • Undertake first aid training and provide cover as required • Assist with such other duties as the Estates Coordinator, Estates Manager or Assistant Estates Manager may need from time to time Norwich Evening Caretaker Essential • Full driving licence and the ability to drive the NUA van • First Aid Certificate or willingness to achieve one • The ability to work independently and flexibly with minimal supervision • Must be willing to join the 24/7 Call Out Team rota and be able to respond on site within 20 minutes of call out • Conscientious and professional attitude with excellent interpersonal skills as the role involves regular contact with students • Ability to test, set and react to fire/intruder alarm systems • Ability to maintain accurate record systems (eg fire inspections) Desirable • Previous experience of caretaking in an education environment • Previous experience in using all forms of cleaning equipment and materials • General maintenance skills Norwich Work Interview Expenses The standard hours of work for professional services staff is 37 hours per week and any additional hours as are necessary for the proper discharge of your duties and responsibilities The hours for this post are 37 hours per week for XXX weeks per year Monday to Thursday 5.00pm to 11.30pm and Saturdays 8.30 am to 7.30 pm If it is necessary for you to travel to the main campus for your interview or a site visit, reasonable travel and incidental expenses will be reimbursed You will need to provide receipts for expenses claimed However, if you are offered the position and decline the offer, expenses may not be reimbursed Salary Right to Work in the United Kingdom This post is on an incremental salary scale The salary for this post is Grade 2, which is from £17,901 to £18,529 per annum It is anticipated that the starting salary will be at the beginning of the salary scale The successful candidate will normally move up the scale points within the Grade on 1st September each year, after completion of the relevant service period Annual Leave There is an annual holiday entitlement of 22 days rising to 25 days after years’ service, plus statutory days (pro rata) In addition, the University may grant or concessionary days leave per year when the University is closed Your salary will include an allowance for holiday which will be taken out of term time As
