the total number of tests conducted over the last days and multiplying by 100 **Compliance with health and safety measures is calculated by the number of failed audits and complaints of non-compliance, divided by the total number of schools operating, multiplied by 100 HEALTH & SAFETY COVID Testing Consent Launches • Beginning April 19, APS and ResourcePath will provide free testing for students and staff who are symptomatic, or who have been exposed to COVID-19 • Walk-up testing sites will be located at Glebe Elementary, Kenmore Middle and Wakefield High School and testing for students and staff who develop symptoms while at school • Parental consent will be required in advance of testing via forms easily accessible on the APS website at apsva.us/covid-19-testing/ and the on the ResourcePath website at www.resourcepath.net • Additional asymptomatic testing, or surveillance testing, is in development pending new CDC guidance and more details will be shared Revised CDC expanding in-person learning opportunities for students during the current school year, while balancing the needs of all students and keeping health and safety at the forefront In response to the CDC’s revised distancing guidance, APS will: • • • • • Admit additional students for hybrid/in-person instruction, based on each school’s capacity and consideration of physical distancing guidance, while supporting changes from hybrid to full distance Prioritize special populations for in-person instruction, including English learners, Special Education students and students having challenges in distance learning Continue to provide four-day per week in-person schedules for students in countywide special education programs Continue delivering quality full-time distance learning with targeted interventions and support for students needing extra assistance learning remotely Prepare to offer five-day per week in-person and distance learning instructional models in summer and fall 2021-22 Update TEACHING & LEARNING Upcoming SOL Testing • Standards of Learning (SOL) tests have not been waived and APS is required to deliver them in person at school • All SOL tests will be administered in person in May and June • Hybrid students will test on days when they are scheduled to attend school • Full-distance learning (DL) students will be scheduled to test on Mondays • Transportation will be provided for students who may need a bus to come to school for SOL testing Families are encouraged to provide their own transportation, whenever possible, on the day their student is scheduled to take their SOL test(s) • The Virginia Dept of Education has provided a remote assessment option for full-time distance learning students in grades 3-8 who, due to the pandemic, are receiving all their instruction remotely and will not go to their school to take the SOL tests It will be available on April 12 Details: https://www.doe.virginia.gov/remotetest/ • There will be no penalty for students who are not assessed, but parents will need to submit the APS Parent Refusal Form for the appropriate assessments For more information: https://www.apsva.us/assessment/ TEACHING & LEARNING Summer and Fall 2021-22 Update • Summer school offerings will include: • Full-time in-person instruction for days a week • Full-time distance learning for days a week • Summer school course offerings are contingent on available staffing • Extended Day will not be offered during summer school due to staffing and space constraints and health and safety requirements • We are preparing to offer five-day in-person and five-day distance learning schedules in the fall, while following health and safety guidance • We will continue to communicate 2021-22 school year updates providing the details of each instructional model • Family/student surveys will be conducted in late April/May to gather data regarding instructional model and transportation choices for summer and fall 2021-22 TEACHING & LEARNING Class of 2021 Graduation and Promotions • APS is planning to hold in-person, outdoor high school graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021 in mid-June In-person ceremonies are being planned for the graduates of: • Arlington Career Center, Arlington Community High School, H-B Woodlawn Secondary Program, Langston, New Directions, Wakefield, Washington-Liberty and Yorktown • We are exploring outdoor venues to include the possible use of our high school stadiums, playing fields, parks and/or other school sites • Middle school promotions will remain virtual at this time per VDOE guidance that in-person ceremonies should be held for institutions where a degree is conferred, or diploma awarded • APS will notify staff, students, and families as soon as plans are finalized for graduation and other end-of-year events Operations Update OPERATIONS Transportation Services Hybrid Routes: • More than 5,000 students routed for hybrid/in-person learning with restricted capacity of 11 students per bus on multiple days; approximately 147 daily routes • Hybrid Route Optimization: Transportation adjusted routes which took effect on Tues., April The adjustments were made to reflect changes in family transportation choices and open up empty seats Monday Testing Transportation: • FEB - APRIL: WIDA Testing – Transportation provided for more than 1,300 students on multiple days • MAR - APRIL: SOL Work Keys – Transportation provided for HS English Work Keys exams for 500 students • MAY - JUNE: Transportation will run new Monday routes on Mondays starting May through June 14 (except Memorial Day) for 4,500 eligible distance learning students scheduled to take the SOL in person OPERATIONS Instructional Learning Support Program • APS has worked with Arlington County to expand the ILS program to serve additional students in need Tuesday – Friday, using their facilities • The County is providing ILS Tuesday-Friday from 7:30 a.m – p.m at Drew Community Center for 30 students, beginning April APS will continue to operate ILS on Mondays at the four current schools • Extended Day staff is assisting with the transition by providing onsite support and reaching out to families
