School of Health Professions at Kingsway Regional School District PRESENTED BY: ROBIN JARAMILLO AND MEGHAN MATTSON SCHOOL OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS INSTRUCTORS MEGAN BRUDER SCHOOL OF HEALTH PROFESSION SUPERVISOR jaramillor@krsd.us mattsonm@krsd.us bruderm@krsd.us Overview Fields of Interest: Purpose: Nursing Expose students to Physical Therapy different aspects of various health professions Build related skills and knowledge to utilize post graduation Whether it is for higher education or a certification Occupational Therapy Physicians Assistant Medical Assistant Surgical Technologist Athletic Trainer Radiology Tech Three classes within the School of Health Profession Introduction to Health Profession Eligible to enroll Sophomore year Health Professions Two: Kinesiology and Injury Recognition Eligible after they have successfully completed Introduction to Health Professions Health Professions Seminar Eligible after successful completion of IHP, HP2 and Anatomy and Physiology Must have complete application process for enrollment Current Enrollment Requirements Class of 2022 – Rising Seniors Students who complete required course eligible for Seminar Classroom engagement Attendance must me in good standing No major discipline infractions Class of 2023 –Rising Juniors Student who successfully complete Intro to HP are eligible for HP2 Students interested in Seminar will start application process and enroll in Honors Anatomy and Physiology Must continue to maintain attendance and avoid discipline infractions Class of 2023 DETAILED BREAKDOWN Interview Details Once your applications is submitted student will be contacted to schedule an interview March 3rd, 10th and 17th Purpose of the Panel Interview Grasp students' current interest in the program Ensure the student understands commitment Approximately 15 minutes Students are expected to dress professional Letters of Recommendation Two letters of recommendation are required (1) From within the School of Health Professions (2) From a teacher you have had within the last two years, from the time of application (Current or Previous school year) Applicants must complete the top half of the recommendation before submitting to the teacher All completed recommendation will be submitted by the teacher to the North Main Office We recommend that applicants follow-up with their teacher to ensure the recommendation has been submitted Senior Seminar WHAT EXACTLY IS IT? Health Professions Seminar/Practicum SEMINAR (Semester One) Students will master research skills ➢ ➢ ➢ Understanding how to utilize research databases Performing advanced scholarly and peer reviewed journal searches Interpreting research journals – how to read – what to read PRACTICUM (Semester Two) Prepares students for real-world experiences through rotations among clinical specialists ➢ Observing the best in the field ➢ Help prepare them for 21st century career skills and concepts Students will complete weekly journals that describe the experience and what skills they observed or utilized ➢ This may include: evaluations, charting, and observation All necessary for data collection, interpreting results and practicum hard skills ➢ The journals will be utilized for discussion in the classroom, focusing on professional practices and skills Certified in Healthcare First Aide and CPR ➢ Prior to entering the practical experience to prepare them for emergency situations within the workforce Students will develop an understanding of medical evaluations and patient relation skills Students will be exposed to extensive knowledge with regards to injury and illness that will be applied clinically HP Seminar - Semester II Practical The Health Professions Practicum is a semester long experience in which qualifying seniors are placed with various medical professionals to gain real-world experiences Students observe, learn and experience several areas within the Healthcare office setting to gain knowledge and exposure to medical professions associated with the care/treatment of medical injuries and illness Practicum Placement Student surveys are completed during the seminar I to place students into fields that best suit their intended career interests Students are scheduled two (2) days a week from approximately 8:30am10:30am at any of the locations below: Rothman Cooper Premier Orthopedics RSCJ College Credits Student will be eligible to take RCSJ courses in the following: Nutrition Medical Terminology Biomedical Ethics Students must meet the required scores to be eligible PSAT; SAT; Accuplacer Student Investments • CPR & First Aide Certification • $50.00 • Travel Expense Turnpike and Gas –Location dependent • • Clothing Attire: • Collared Shirt • • • sponsored in the past Casual pants Closed toe shoes Colleges: Rutgers Stockton Widener West Chester Jefferson Drexel TCNJ RCSJ St Bonaventure Penn State Rowan West Virginia Temple James Madison Kean University Delaware County CC Ithaca College University of Pittsburgh University of Maryland Georgia University Philadelphia College of Medicine Monmouth Virginia Tech Millersville Bloomsburg Neumann University University of Delaware Arcadia University Townson University Most Common College Majors Declared: ▪ Nursing ▪ Health Sciences ▪ Physical Therapy ▪ Physicians Assistant ▪ Occupational Therapy ▪ Athletic Training Cohort Alumni Rothman Institute Sports Medicine Senior Practicum Cohort – Class of 2017 Rothman Institute Sports Medicine Senior Practicum Cohort – Class of 2018 Cohort Alumni Rothman Institute Sports Medicine Senior Practicum Cohort – Class of 2019 Rothman Institute Sports Medicine Senior Practicum Cohort – Class of 2020 Their Future Begins Now!
