Physical Education/Health Coach West Schofield Middle School (803) 641-2770 (office) (803) 455-2928 (Google Voice) LWest@acpsd.net Course Description: PE: In this course you will learn the importance of physical activity and maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle You will be exposed to various sports and activities and the skills needed to be successful in them You will also learn the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork All lessons will be planned in correlation to the South Carolina Physical Education Standards Health: In this course you will learn the skills necessary to maintain your own personal health and overall wellness You will also learn skills necessary to confront health issues such as disease prevention, decision-making skills, safety skills and concepts, the ability to demonstrate health-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices; integration of the physical, mental, emotional, and social dimensions of health as the basis for study of other topic areas such as consumer, environmental, and nutritional health All lessons will be planned according to South Carolina Health Standards: Required Materials: Mask/Faceshield Hand Sanitizer Personal Water Bottle Tennis Shoes Notebook/Folder/Journal Pen/Pencil Homework: All homework assignments are due on the next class period unless noted otherwise Quizzes/Tests: There will be quizzes throughout the semester You will be notified in advance before a test will be given Monthly Activity Log (Uploaded in Schoology): At the beginning of each month, an activity calendar will be given to each student Students must perform 30 minutes of physical activity each day, and a parent/guardian must initial in the log for each month Each log must be initialed by parent/guardian for credit to be received These are due the first school day of the following month (i.e September's calendar will be due, October 1st) Activity Logs will count as a quiz for grading purposes Grading: You will be graded using the points system In PE you will be given 10 points each day (4 points for dressing out (proper footwear), point for being on time, and points for participating) In health, each assignment will carry a number of points At the end of the grading period your total points possible will be divided by total points you actually have to determine your grade! Consequences: Rule infractions will be handled in accordance with the student handbook Procedures: Report to assigned area/Spot Marker on the Floor Do not touch equipment until you are instructed to so Only Medical excuses from a physician will be accepted Restroom Breaks will be provided on a rotation with other classes on 400 Hall Students are required to leave all valuables in their book bags (Money, Jewelry, Purses, CELL PHONES, iPod, etc…) Schofield Middle School will not be held responsible for lost or stolen items during PE!!! ** All Students are required to participate during PE both on Hybrid days and at home You will receive a Failing grade if you not participate!!!
