Middle School Math Enrichment Specialist! ! We are seeking a dynamic, skilled, and creative math teacher to work with both middle school faculty and students on providing math enrichment, differentiated instruction, and curricular guidance, as well as teach two sections of eighth grade enriched Algebra I ! ! This person will be an integral member of the seventh and eighth grade teams and will also serve as a math specialist for grades 5-8 In addition, our middle school math enrichment specialist will serve as a seventh or eighth grade advisor Deep knowledge and ability to teach and work with math faculty on the following skills are required: problem-solving, advanced arithmetic, number properties, decimals, fractions, percent, measurement, statistics, geometry, order of operations, ratio, number theory, probability, algebraic thinking, basic trigonometry, linear equations, systems and inequalities, polynomials, quadratic functions, graphing inequalities, radical and rational functions, and exponential functions A qualified candidate will possess a strong knowledge and familiarity with adolescent development, and a passion for working with middle school students and faculty ! ! Responsibilities! ! The middle school math enrichment specialist will:! • Work collaboratively with heads team to plan and implement compelling and rigorous curricular math experiences.! • Support middle school faculty in designing and implementing math curriculum.! • Work collaboratively with the middle school learning specialist to target specific student needs.! • Collaborate with lower school math faculty on building upon math skills taught in the lower grades to support students in their transition between lower and middle school math curriculum.! • Teach two sections of enriched Algebra I to eighth grade students.! • Serve as a seventh or eighth grade advisor.! • Record curriculum in the school-wide database.! • Collaborate with the seventh and eighth grade teams to support co-curricular programming and the development of adolescents beyond the classroom.! • Work to ensure academic excellence (the ability of students to approach novel tasks with confidence, the mindset, and effective skills to accomplish them successfully).! • Keep careful anecdotal and assessment records to inform and write comprehensive student reports and high school recommendations.! • Lead and assist in parent-teacher conferences regarding the social, emotional, and academic growth of middle school students.! • Plan, collaborate, and lead parent forums about best practices in mathematics and the pedagogy that Belmont Day practices.! ! 55 Day School Lane Belmont, MA 02478 617 484 3078 www.belmontday.org Responsibilities, continued! ! • Have knowledge and experience with using resources from professional math organizations to inform and evaluate middle school math curriculum.! • Provide regular, constructive, and specific feedback to help students grow and learn.! • Establish and maintain a strong home-school partnership with students’ families to ensure students’ success.! • Commit to effective use of technology.! • Have outstanding organizational skills.! • Serve as one of the nearly three dozen Capstone mentors to an eighth grade student.! ! Requirements! • University degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or education.! • Experience working with middle school students.! • An advanced degree in math and/or teaching; educational leadership experience is preferred.! • Prior experience with coaching faculty is preferred.! • Speaking at conferences, authoring articles, or responsibility for curriculum is preferred.! • Experience with generating and evaluating projects, with assessment, and with integrated curriculum is preferred.! • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.! • A sense of humor, flexibility, energy, patience, creativity required.! !
