New Jersey’s first Greater Newark Mini Maker Faire is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 10 am to pm at the Newark Museum The Greater Newark Mini Maker Faire is a celebration of creativity and ingenuity in and around New Jersey Makers — from woodworkers to boatbuilders, from robotics engineers to 3D-printing artists — will present their projects that take DIY thinking to a new level Whether they are presenting a clever new way to make ink, a robotic arm, a robot that can draw or the science behind conductive ink, the Makers at this event will captivate and inspire—all alongside the Museum’s art and science collections, which are the ultimate “maker” examples The event is more about show than tell in a fun faire environment Join demonstrations, participate in hands-on workshops and be inspired by speakers pushing the limits of the art, science and technology The keynote speaker for the event will be Nervous System, a generative design studio that works at the intersection of science, art and technology Founders Jesse and Jessica will discuss Nervous System’s efforts to revolutionize product design through generative techniques, 3-D printing and interactivity Along the way, they will take several long detours into the realms of natural pattern formation, simulation, and biology The talk will focus on their latest project, Kinematics, a 4-D printing technique they created to create complex, foldable forms for 3-D printing Forty Makers from across New Jersey will exhibit Activities and demonstrations include:                 Showing how to hack a bicycle with Newark Bike Exchange Exploring latest technologies with NJIT College of Architecture and Design Making glass beads with GlassRoots Watching the LED’s light up at high speeds with Hoboken MakerBar’s Orbital Rendersphere Watching 3D printers in action with 3DMonstr Meeting Henry Feinberg, creator of the E.T.’s “Phone Home” Communicator Controlling underwater robots with WaterBotics FUBAR Labs showcasing their power wheel racer Learning about Action figure modeling and design Taking a leap from Mine Craft into reality with Soldering Sunday Learning about traditional Japanese woodworking techniques with Giant Cypress Exploring Makerspace in libraries with Piscataway Public Library Learning to solder with Institute for Exploratory Research Learning how teens build boats with Project U.S.E Boatbuilding Building LEGO bots with Bricks Kidz Learning how to crochet from an eight-year-old Jersey City craftsman The Greater Newark Mini Maker Faire and the Young Maker Program at the Newark Museum are made possible thanks to a generous grant from the PSN Family Charitable Trust The official airline is United Additional support is provided by Make Magazine, Yelp, the Newark Star-Ledger and New Happening Advance tickets are available online through April for $12, adults;
