this era of globalization where mostly everyone wants to explore something new each moment, it becomes impossible to actually avoid how important translation is We all realize that translation is not just a way of converting words into other words but it’s a complicated and a very crucial way of explaining things in a way that its actual meaning is delivered without harming its origin Translation also carries one culture to the other altogether in all around the world Translation is a challenging skill and takes a lot of time to learn, and it takes constant practice to create a perfect translation Because, most of the languages that exist in the world are changing and developing every day The skills required for translators will help them succeed in this profession LUAN VAN CHAT empathetic communication between languages and cultures.The importance of translation comes out due to the fact that it is one of the fields being very much useful in various aspects of human life 1.2 Aims of the thesis This thesis was done with a view to find out students‟ difficulties in learning written translation in order to orient students who begin to study this subject in good manner of study The study also aims at understanding the students‟ expectation in learning the subject and then suggesting some possible solutions to overcome difficulties as well as satisfy their expectations 2.1.1 Definition of translation Translation, interpretation, or transliteration is an activity that involves interpreting the meaning of a passage in one language (source text) and translating it into another language into a new and equivalent passage (the Translate) 2.1.2 Problems that English–major students face when learning practical translation * Words with Several Meanings There are several words in the English language that have different meanings based on the way they are used in the sentence Words are sometimes spelled alike and pronounced alike, but have different meanings, LUAN VAN CHAT LUONG download : add luanvanchat@agmail.com like break (a plate) or take a coffee break Words that have the same spellings but different pronunciations like to lead a conference, or a lead pencil There are also words that have different spelling but have the same pronunciation, like break and brake, grate and great, and so on There are hundreds of such words in English, and also idioms, metaphors, similes and so on However, those words may be different in other languages * Lack of Technical Knowledge Regarding technical knowledge, translators are first and foremost, linguists; though they have good knowledge of certain subjects, they are usually not the top experts in the field In fact it’s very rare that you find a say, doctor, who is also an expert linguist Translators usually translation; some documents may be full of technical jargon, or talk about specific procedures or activities in detail This can pose a problem for translators 2.1.3 Suggested for solutions to the problems * Solution 1: Read very carefully The translator has to be very vigilant, and carefully read the source text to fully grasp the meaning Only after that should they begin the work of translation; otherwise, it can lead to embarrassing mistakes * Solution: Ask experts for help If the matter is very technical you may need a lot of time – more than usual, to complete the task You
