EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF CROSS FINGER FLAPS IN COVERAGE OF FINGER SOFTTUSSUE DEFECTS Objective: Finger Soft tissue defects are the most common form of the hand injuries. Restoration of the anatomy and function is still a technical challenge and is one of the basic tenets of the management of finger injuries. The cross finger flap is simple and easy to do and is a very useful tool in reconstruction of the pulp of the finger. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of clinical application of cross finger flap in the coverage of finger softtussue defects. Materia and methods: The study was conducted on a prospective basis in the Department of Esthetic plastic surgery and Burn, Can tho Central General Hospital, The study period was from janury to december 2019. All of patients over 16 years old who underwent crossfinger flaps reconstruction for finger softtussue defects. All cases were done under local anaesthesia. Preoperative parameters which were recorded were mechanism of injury, size of defect, size of the flap, kind of crossfinger flaps, location of donor site and method of coverage of secondary defect. Outcome measures recorded were flap viability, range of motion of fingers and presence of other complications. Result: 31 patients were included in this study. The mean age of patients was 36.32±16. The most common mode was accidental machine injury, the right hand (61.3%) and the index finger (38.71%), middle finger (29.03%) most frequently, distal phalanges account for the hightest percentage (96.78%). The crossfinger flaps were used for all cases and 100% patients were comback imediately after surgery. Time to devision ranged from 14 – 21 (mean 15.9 ±15). All flap survived. There was no reported case of hypertropic scar at donor site. Conclusion: Inspite of changes in design, technique, and modifications in the donor finger, the crossfinger flap has good outcomes and less complications. Hence, Cross finger flap is very effective for the coverage of softtissue defects in the fingers.
