Main Components of the Front Load FDF
Front Load fiberframes can be ordered and shipped as a single unit. Simply specify the required
components and ADC will assemble the frame for you. Certain items must be ordered as separate line
items and shipped separately for on-site installation; these items are indicated below.
How To Order a Front Load Frame
Select the desired bay based on height.
Select the desired Front Load modules
Connector Modules: Available in 72 position, 96 position and a 12-pack plug-in configuration. The
72 position module is recommended for most applications. Also available in 144 position using ADC’s
LX.5
®
connectors.
Splice Modules: Accommodate splicing for connector modules. (Remember that splice trays and cable
clamps must be ordered separately.)
Storage Modules: Used to store jumpers when 5" bay spacing is not available (storage modules are not
mandatory when the interbay management panel is used).
Value-Added Modules (VAM): 12 position VAM chassis available for Front Load frames. The Front Load
VAM chassis holds up to 12 single VAM plug-ins.
NOTE: Rear Load modules cannot be installed into a Front Load bay.
Metal doors
Upper and lower half bay doors are recommended to protect fibers on the rear side of the bay.
Interbay management panels (ordered and shipped as separate line items)
The interbay management panel mounts between bays in the same manner as a 5" (12.7 cm) bay spacer.
This panel is optional but is recommended for all applications of the frame. An interbay panel should be
mounted on each side of a fiber frame. For underfloor cabling/raised floor applications an underfloor guard
box is required.
Optional Equipment
Rear fiber storage panel (cross-connect applications only)
Provides cable management and service loop storage of fiber optic patch cords which are typically
routed between an ADC fiber distribution frame (FDF) and the fiber optic terminal (FOT) equipment.
Cannot be used on OSP bays where cable clamps are used.
End guards (ordered and shipped as separate line item).
Splice trays
Each splice module will accept up to (16) 12-position single splice trays or (8) 24-position dual splice
trays. Splice trays must be ordered in addition to the splice module.
Pigtail assemblies
Pigtails can be factory loaded into the bay. Once installed they are 100% tested to ensure their
performance in the field.
Blank panels
As necessary for vacant positions.
Cable clamps (ordered and shipped as separate line item)
One cable clamp is required for each cable brought into the frame.
Communication panels
If a communication panel is desired, it will occupy one module location in the bay.
Fiber optic patch cords.

Front Load Frame Connector Modules
Connector Module — 72, 96 or 144 Termination
• The patented angle retainer allows removal of the adapter from the front of the module without the
use of tools providing access to the connector on the inside of the panel for cleaning
• Fanning strips maintain 1.5" (3.81 cm) bend radius, provide organization, hold fibers in place at
point of entry to the module
• Removable transparent, smoked plastic cover encloses front of module; protects fibers and
connectors from disturbance
• Designation card, identifying each cable, is visible when cover is opened or closed
• An accessory mounting kit is required when installing a Front Load module into a plain, 23" WECO
drilled, unequal flange rack (Non-ADC Front Load Frame)
• 72 position connector modules are numbered 1-36 on the left, 37-72 on the right. 96 position
connector modules are numbered 1-48 on the left, 49-96 on the right. Standard modules are
numbered vertically (see Figure 1). Horizontally numbered connector modules are also available.

The pigtails have an overall protective jacket with 12 color-coded 900µm stranded fibers inside. Each
12-fiber pigtail bundle is numbered making it easy to identify each bundle and route them to the desired
splice tray. They are over 5 meters long so they can be routed from any connector module to the splice
module within the frame.

Fiber pigtail assemblies are used within a frame and typically
routed from the backside of a connector module to the splice
module where they are spliced to OSP fibers. ADC offers 5 meter
stranded pigtail assemblies that consist of 12 color-coded 900µm
fibers covered in an overall jacket referred to as a soft wall
bundle. The flexible jacket provides physical protection for the
individual fibers as they are routed from the connector module
to the splice module.
