Type 2 – Unreal Conditional-Present/Future If + did - would/could/might/should + do (I.4) 3. Type 3 – Unreal Conditional-Past If + had done - would/could/might/should + have done (I.8) I. If-Sentences: 4. Zero Conditional – Real Conditional-Present If + do/does – do/does If you pour oil into water, it always floats. 5. Mixed Conditional: if-2 + if-3 (I.10) 6. Unless = If … not (II.6) If you don’t wipe your feet, you’ll make muddy marks all over the floor. II. Wish-Sentences 1. Wishes – Future & Present a. wish (that) + did (I.4) b. wish (that) + would do (I.5) → Polite Request (1) S 1 ≠ S 2 (2) S 1 complains about present & hopes for a future change I wish you would stop fighting and work things out. If-3: If I had known you were ill, I would have visited you. (S-V) S V  Had I known you were ill, I would have visited you. (V-S) V S III. Omitting “if” for Emphasis: 3.
