UNIT : PRESERVING THE ENVIRONMENT Lesson 5: LISTENING I OBJECTIVES : By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: Knowledge: - Language: use the vocabulary and structures they have learned to the activities required Skill(s): improve their listening skill by selective listening and comprehension questions Attitude and competences: - Improve such competencies as: pairwork, groupwork, communication, presentation - Ss will be aware of protecting the environment II METHOD: - Integrated, mainly communicative III Teaching aids: Teacher: board, handouts, laptop, textbook video Students: textbook, notebook, pen IV PROCEDURES: Stage Contents Work arrangement Warm-up (5 mins) Prelistening (13 mins) - T has Ss look at the pictures and answers to the questions in the instructions Ex: Who are they? - Whole class What are they doing? - Answer to the T’s What are they doing for? question What you think you are going to listen about? - T asks them to use the caption to help them guess Suggested answers: The people are planting a tree - T leads to the lesson - Teach new words : *Vocabulary: (7 mins) + degraded (adj) /di'greid/: lower in quality Nghĩa + erosion(n) /i'rouʤn/: condition in which earth’s surface is worn away by the action of water and wind + sewage(n) /'sju:idʤ/: waste matter from home, carried away in a system of pipes + aquatic (adj) / əˈkwætɪk / (adj): of water or living in water + fossil fuels / ˈfɒsl fjuːəl/ (n) nhiên liệu hóa thạch + awareness /əˈweə.nəs/ (n)= nhận thức - T reads each word times and ask all Ss to repeat it - T leaves Ss 1min to self practice reading the words - T asks 3-4 sts to read all the words aloud in front of the class - T gives feedback and correct the pronunciation if there is any mistake * Checking Vocabulary: Fill in blank with - Take note - Read the words carefully individually - Whole class suitable word.( mins) Human ecosystem services and create an environmental problem has been widening the river banks for years _habitat would be the natural ocean/river/water environment Harmful rubbish and _ dumped in river and ocean has polluted the water fuel such as coal or oil that was formed over millions of years from parts of dead animals or plants - T asks Ss to one by one write down the answers on the board - T gives feedback correct the answer if there is mistake Key: degrade aquatic fossil fuels erosion sewage Whilelistening Task 1: Select the best title (8 mins) - T asks Ss to take a look four sentences before they hear - T asks Ss to find the key word - T plays the recording twice and have students the activity - T asks Ss to compare their answers with partners - T checks their answers by calling one go to the board and write down answers - T plays the recording again if many students in the class have incorrect answers, pausing at the places where they can get the correct information Suggested answer: C Environmental Degradation - Work in pairs - Read the request of task - Listen carefully - Check each other - Ss writes down answer on board - Listen to the recording and the task individually first, then compare the answer with a partner Task 2: Listen Tick the words you hear (5 mins) - T asks Ss to take a look eight words before they hear - T plays the recording once and have students the activity - T asks Ss to compare their answers with partners - T checks their answers by calling one go to the board and write down answers Suggested answer ( on slide) + Degraded + Resulted + Erosion - T and whole class + Sewage + Aquatic + Awareness Task 3: Complete the sentences with one or two words from the talk (8 mins) - T Asks Ss to read the instruction and the sentences 1-6 carefully - T asks Ss to guess the type of word - T asks Ss to find the key word - T makes sure that they understand the sentences - T plays the recording once or twice again for Ss to fill in the gaps - T asks Ss to work with partner to compare the answers - T invites representatives from some pairs to report their answers to the class - T gives feedback and correct any wrong answers Answer: affected global warming - Ss note down their group members' answers and get ready to report 3 Ecosystem health problems control Every effort Postlistening Task 4:Talk about some way to protect the natural environment: (5 mins) - T gives Ss some questions: + What environmental problem you have locally? + What causes those problems? + What should we to protect where we live? - T guides Ss work in group of to find out some ways to protect the natural environment by show them mind map - Have some sts present their reports to the class Example: I can plant trees to replace deforestation which leads to the extinction of rare animals, and extreme floods and land erosion - T checks and give feedback - Learn new words by heart - Prepare for “Writing” Homewor k (1 mins) Homewor k
