acceleration sensor A combination sensor, the centre crash sensor for X/Y axis, measures both vehicle acceleration and deceleration in the Y and Y directions The centre crash sensor for X/Y axis is used to validate the plausibility of defined crash situations in the longitudinal (X) and transverse directions (Y) Y X 637_010 Installation location In the Audi Q7, the centre crash sensor for X/Y axis G858 is located on the centre tunnel rear in proximity to the rear cross member for the driver's seat Centre crash sensor for X/Y axis G858 637_011 Airbag control unit J234 Sensors and data bus interface The airbag control unit J234 in the Audi Q7 has undergonme extensive modification The sensors which measure acceleration in the X and Y directions and yaw rate about the vehicle's Z axis (inertial sensors) are now positioned directly on the airbag control unit J234 To enable the ESC signals to be transmitted on the data bus with guaranteed minimum reaction time of about ms, the control unit was rerouted from the powertrain CAN bus to the FlexRay bus In functional terms, therefore, the airbag control unit J234 records body movement and provides this data via the FlexRay bus to ABS control unit J104, among others The ABS control unit J104 is also connected to the FlexRay bus The ABS control unit processes the data it receives from the airbag control unit and takes the appropriate action, e.g stabilision of vehicle by corrective braking (ESC control) 637_050 Airbag control unit J234 < Back Forwards > Ξ Contents Measurement of longitudinal vehicle movement in X, Y and Z directions The sensors for the measurement of longitudinal vehicle movement in X, Y and Z directions work on the "seismic mass" principle Coordinates Z Y X 637_013 Design of the sensor A movably mounted mass (seismic mass) is integrated in the sensor at a defined distance to a stationary capacitor plate acting as an electrode The seismic mass also has electrodes, which combine with the stationary electrodes to form a capacitor An acceleration force acting on the sensor changes the position of the seismic mass relative to the stationary capacitor plate due to inertia This, in turn, changes the physical magnitude of the capacitance, which is processed digitally and evaluated accordingly Rest position Movement Direction of measurement Spring element Capacitor plate (movably mounted) Capacitor plate (stationary) Seismic mass Housing 637_014 637_015 < Back Forwards > Ξ Contents Measurement of vehicle rotation about the X and Z axes Coordinates The sensors for the measurement of vehicle rotation about the X and Z axes work on the "Coriolis force" principle Z X 637_088 The Coriolis force acts on all bodies that move within a rotating reference system The effect of the Coriolis force is demonstrated in the example given here A ball is rolled on a disc When the disc is stationary the ball rolls straight across it 637_016a When the disc rotates while the ball is rolling on the platform, however, the ball is deflected in the direction of motion of the disc The degree of deflection depends on the rotational speed of the disc 637_016b Put in simple terms, therefore, the sensor consists of a micromechanical body which is permanently subjected to oscillation excitation When the vehicle turns, the direction of movement of the oscillating body changes These deflections relative to the direction of movement (changes in movement) are processed digitially and evaluated accordingly To measure rotation about the X and Z axes, a rollover sensor (for rollover detection) and an inertial sensor (for ESC signal indicating yaw rate about Z) are arranged at a 90° offset relative to each other in the airbag control unit J234 Airbag control unit J234 637_012 10 < Back Forwards > Network system The information electronics control unit J794 is connected to the data bus diagnostic interface J533 via the infotainment CAN bus in all infotainment versions The infotainment CAN bus is a highspeed bus with a max data transfer rate of 500 kbit/s Infotainment topology The following control units may also be connected to the infotainment CAN depending on trim level: • Control unit in dash panel insert J285 • Control unit for windscreen projection (head-up display) J898 • Selector lever sensors control unit J587 Driver side volume control E67 The MMI display J685 and the operating unit E380 are connected to the information electronics control unit J794 via the Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB) CAN bus This bus is also a highspeed bus with 500 kbit/s Multimedia system operating unit E380 If the vehicle is fitted with an additional infotainment control unit (e.g Bang & Olufsen sound system), the infotainment system also comes equipped with a MOST bus The MOST bus is a MOST 150 with a data transfer rate of 150 Mbit/s The information electronics control unit J794 acts both as the system master and diagnostics master for the MOST bus MMI display J685 Due to the combination of infotainment CAN bus and MOST bus, an open circuit in the MOST bus will not result in total failure of the MMI This means that all functions executed directly in J794 are still available However, audio output via an external amplifier would no longer be possible Image transfer All image information which appears on the MMI display J685 is sent from the information electronics control unit 1 J794 via LVDS lines The displays for the control unit in dash panel insert J285 are transferred from the information electronics control unit 1 J794 as follows: • LVDS: Only large navigation map and detailed intersection maps • MOST bus: All other content, such as liste menus or covers Wire colours: Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB) CAN LIN bus Extended CAN Infotainment CAN bus MOST bus LVDS The image information from the DVD autochanger is transmitted in the form of mpeg4 files via the MOST bus to J794 J794 then decodes this data Image information from the surround view camera control unit J928 (TopView) is transmitted to the information electronics control unit J794 via LVDS lines 58 "OR" configuration Ξ Contents < Back TV
