1.Asking and answering about the distance using How far … ?

Để hỏi khoảng cách từ nơi này đến nơi khác ta dùng : How far is it from ……… to …….? Câu trả lời : It’s ( about ) + distance ………

Lưu ý : Trong câu trả lời khoảng cách, ta thường dùng trạng từ about (khoảng chừng) không biết độ dài xác khoảng cách

Example : How far is it from your house to school ? ( Từ nhà bạn đến trường là bao xa?)

It’s about kilometer ( from my house to school ) (Nó khoảng chừng kilơmét.)

Exercise : Write the questions and answers as the patterns: ( viết câu hỏi trả lời theo mẫu )

Ex : your house / school / kilometers S1 : How far is it from your house to school? S2: It’s about three kilometers

Theory : Lý Thuyết

We use ‘ used to ‘ to describe an action , a habit , or a state that happened regularly in the past but doesn’t happen now ( sử dụng used to để miêu tả hành động , thói quen , trạng thái xảy thường xun quá khứ mà khơng cịn nữa )

Form : + Affirmative ( thể khẳng định ) : S + used to + V…… - Negative ( thể phủ định ) : S + didn’t use to + V…

? Interrogative ( thể nghi vấn ) : Did + S + use to + V…… ? Yes , S + did / No , S + didn’t Example : My father used to smoke cigarettes ( Ba hút thuốc ) Exercises :

Exercise1 : Complete the sentences with “used to” or “didn’t use to”.( Hoàn thành câu dùng used to or didn’t use to )

1 I like sports, but now I a lot of different sports I _ be afraid of heights, but then I started climbing hills I _ like putting my head in the water because I couldn’t swim

4 I _ go skating until I met Anna in Switzerland, and then we have practised a lot so far

Connectors : ( từ nối ) là từ dùng để nối hai cụm từ hay hai mệnh đề với bài này ,chúng ta tìm hiểu các từ nối sau :

Although / though , inspite of , despite : , cho dù , however , nevertheless : nhiên Notes : dùng although / though ; inspite of /despite để diễn tả tương phản giữa hai thông tin câu

Ex: Although he is so young , he performs excellently.

Chúng ta dùng however , nevertheless để diễn tả tương phản giữa hai câu Ta dùng dấu phẩy sau chúng

Ex: He is so young However ,/Nevertheless, he performs excellently Nguyên tắc chung cần nhớ :

Although/ though + mệnh đề Despite / in spite of + cụm từ

Example : Although he is so young , he performs excellently ( anh trẻ , anh biểu diễn xuất sắc )

Inspite of / Despite being young , he performs excellently Các công thức biến đổi từ mệnh đề sang cụm từ sau:

a) Nếu chủ từ mệnh đề giống nhau: – Bỏ chủ từ ,động từ thêm ING

Ex : Although Tom got up late, he went to school on time.( Tom và he chủ ngữ ) => Despite / in spite of getting up late, Tom went to school on time

b) Nếu chủ từ danh từ + be + tính từ : – Đem tính từ đặt trước danh từ ,bỏ to be Ex : Although the rain was heavy,we drove to my home

S + be + Adj

=> Despite / in spite of the heavy rain, we drove to my home

c) Nếu chủ từ đại từ + be + tính từ :– Đổi đại từ thành tính từ sở hữu ,đổi tính từ thành danh từ ,bỏ be

Ex : Although He was sick, he did his homework ( He là đại từ ) => Despite / in spite of his sickness, he did his homework

EXERCISES :

Ex : Complete the sentences, using although, despite/in spite of ( hoàn thành câu sử dụng although, despite/in spite of )

1. the story of the film was good, I didn’t like the acting 2.I went to see the film feeling really tired

3.I really enjoyed the Water War most of my friends said it wasn’t a very good film 4. careful preparation, they had a lot of difficulties in making the film

EX2 : Rewrite the sentences with despite / Inspite of ( viết lại câu sau dùng Despite / inspite of)
