(1)Identifying a focus for action research
Supervisor : Dr Hannah Pillay Student : Vu Viet Trung
Task : Refining my concern
Aim of the activity : To refine the focus identified as a possible
action research area My concern
What should I to help my students to concentrate and save time when doing group work ?
When doing group work, my students seem to waste a lot
of time I want to increase the amount of task-oriented for
(2)• From the issue I have identified, I want to know :
• Which students are not interested in group work and often waste time ?
• In which activities they waste time to involve with ?
• How will the group work be effected when students waste time ? • Will students pay more attention to their work if I give them clear
instructions and more task-oriented ?
• Which activities I have to to concentrate students to their work ?
(3)To help me make some judgments about my concern, I think I can
collect some kinds of evidence from observations, existing data,
interviews, written surveys, tape and video recorders, feedback…
How ?
- Attending direct and selective observations, being observed then give feedback
- Exploring existing data from students’ written work ( essay, exercises …), from teachers’ writings, notes, diaries … and from other documents like class registers, letters from
parents
- Collecting written surveys from samples, from myself, my colleagues
- Interviewing colleagues, students
