Week: 9 Period: 17 STORY TIME (Aa,Bb,Cc,Dd)

I.Aims.

-To consolidate the sound of the letters Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd and the corresponding words

Ant, apple, alligator, acrobat,Ball, bed, bee, bear,Cat, carrot, clock, car,Dog, drum, dragon, doll

1/Knowledge.

2 Skill: Listening, writing , speaking and reading. 3 Attitude.

- Educate Ss to be friendly with friends - Students love animals with the letter a,b,c,d II.Teaching aids:

T: teachers’ book, , CD, phonics cards ,paper including the lyrics of the chant Ss: Student’s book, colour Activity book.

III Teaching method: MAT, TPA. IV/ Procedure

2.Warm up ( 5’)

-Arrange some chairs, back to back, in the middle of the room -Choose phonics cards and place them on the chairs

-Play a song (use a song from the previous units)

-When the music stops the students pick up a phonics card and, one at time, tell Teacher the name of the item pictured on their phonics card

-The student who gives an incorrect answer is out of the activity -Play the activity as many times as necessary

3 New lesson ( 30’ )

* Activity 1.( 7’)

-T: (book closed) Tell the students that it’s story time

-T: Ask them if they like reading stories and what their favourite story (or character) is -T: Prepare phonics cards of these words:

ant, bed, dog, cat, clock, dragon, drum - Ss: listen

-T: Ask the students to read out the words - Ss: work individually

-T: Invite students to guess what they think the story is about (do not dismiss any ideas) -T: Ask the students to open their books -T: Ask them questions about what they can see in the pictures

e.g Teacher: (pointing to the dog in picture 1) Look! What’s this?

Class: (It’s a) dog!

Teacher: (pointing to the bed in picture 1) Yes! The dog is on the …. Class: bed! Etc

- Ss: listen

-T: Play the CD and ask the students to lis-ten and follow the story in their books, pointing to the pictures of the key words - Ss: work individually

-T: Play the CD again pausing for the stu-dents to repeat

-T: Ask individual students to read the story aloud

* Activity 2: Extension (optional)(7’) -T: Ask the students to read the story again - Ss: work individually

-T: Then ask them to look at the pictures for a few minutes and close their books

-T: Say a few sentences (some correct and some incorrect) and ask the students to say yes or no

e.g Teacher: The dog is on the bed. Student 1: Yes!

Teacher: The dragon is on the clock. Student 2: No! etc

* Activity (7’)

-T: Point to the animals and ask students to name them

- Ss: look at the picture page 19

-T: Ask the students to say which animals appear in the story

- Ss: work individually and pairs -T: Ask them to colour those animals

- Ss: work individually Activity 4: Act Out ( 7’).

-T: Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key words

-T: Invite the students to mime them (the dog, the bed, the ant, the cat, the clock, the dragon, the drum.

-T: Have the students come to the front of the classroom and act out the story

- Ss: worl individually

-T: Encourage them to have fun as they per-form

4.Consolidation: (3’)

- T: asks whole class to read aloud the letters

2.Warm up ( 5’)

- Put up some phonics cards on the board - Line up students into teams of

-Call a student from each team to stand 1m from the board

- Read words out loud, one at time (e.g ant), the students must run to tap the card of that word

-The student who taps the correct card first will get point for his/her team The team with the most points wins the activity

3 New lesson ( 30’ )

- Ask the students to say the letters - Ss: look at the pictures

- T: The students match the upper case let-ters to the lower case ones

- Ss: work individually

-T: Say the letter and the sound

-T: Ask individual students to repeat the let-ter and the sound

- Ss: work individually and pairs

-T: Go around and provide any necessary help

-T: Ask individual students to say out the letter and the sound

* Activity 2.

-T: Explain the activity

- T: Ask the students to name the items - Ss: look at the pictures

- T: Ask them to tick the correct letter that corresponds to each picture

- Ss: llok at the pictures and tick - Ss: work individually

-T: Go around and provide any necessary

-T: Ask students to match the pictures that begin with the same letter and then match them to the corresponding letter

- Ss: look at the pictures and match - Ss: work individually and pairs

* Activity 4.

- T: Explain the activity - Say the names of the items - Ss: work individually - T: Play the CD

-T: The students listen and circle the correct picture

Activity 5: Get in line

-T: Ask 12 students to come to the front of the classroom and make a circle

- Ss: work in groups

-T: Give the students randomly 12 phonics cards of the words they have learnt Say: Go!

-T: The students must find and get in line with other students holding cards beginning with the same letter

The first students to make a complete line win the activity

4.Consolidation: (3’)

- T: asks whole class to read aloud the letters
