UNIT 10: RECYCLING

GETTING STARED & LISTEN AND READ I Objectives

1 Knowledge, Skills, Attitude: a Knowledge:

- By the end of the lesson, Ss something to protect the environment and save natural recourses - Vocabulary: Related to “Recycling”

- Grammar: - Adj + to inf / noun phrase

- Passive / - Modal verbs: should, can … (revision) b Skills: listening, speaking very less reading and writing

c Attitude: Ss will be educated about the first aid. 2 Capacity is formed and developed for students - Self-learning capability

- Communicative competence - Cooperation capacity

II Preparation

III Students’ activities 1 Warm up (5’)

-T asks Ss to think of ways to reduce the amount of garbage they produce

- Tell Ss to put the posters on the board after they finish and the team having the best ideas is the winner

- Ss give feedback

I Getting started

* Warm up “Brainstorm”: Reuse plastic bags

Possible answer :

Use cloth bags, use tree leaves to warp things, make garbage into fertilizer, make vegetable matter into animal food

2 Knowledge formation activities (36’) - T elicits new words

- Ss pay attention to teacher, give the meanings and take notes

-T explains grammar notes -Ss take notes

II Listen and read

* Ss something to protect the environment and save natural recourses

*Presentation: New words: - reuse (v) : dùng lại - protect : ( v ) bảo vệ

2 Answer the questions: ( 2/p.90) (mark )

a- Reduce means not buying products which are overpackaged.

b- We can reuse things like envelopes, glass, plastic bottles, and old plastic bags

c- Recycle means not fusty throwing things away Try and find another use for them.

d- We can look for information on recycling things by having a contact with an organization like Friends of the Earth , going to the local library, or asking our family and friends

We shouldn’t use plastic bags because when we throw them away they could stay very long and could not be self – destroyed self – demolished

3 Consolidation (4’)

T asks Ss to read the passage and to decide true or false

1 Friends of the Earth is an organization to help people make friends with each other Miss Blake asks the Ss to remember things reduce, reuse, and recycle

3 Reduce means buying the products which are over packed

4 We can not reuse things like envelopes, glass, plastic bottles, and old plastic bags Miss Blake says that we should use cloth bags and shouldn’t use plastic bags at all Recycling means not just throwing away but trying and finding another use for them * Answer:

- Grammar: present simple and future simple

b Skills: listening, speaking very less reading and writing c Attitude: Ss will be educated to reuse and recycle old things. 2 Capacity is formed and developed for students

- Self-learning capability - Communicative competence - Cooperation capacity

1 Warm up (5’) “Kim’s game”

- T asks Ss to work in group (4 or Ss) - T asks Ss to name things they can see in the picture

Possible answer :

Bottles , paper , clothes , used paper , old newspapers , books , cardboard , boxes , plastic bags , food can , jars , drinking tins , vegetable matter , shoes , school bag …

2 Knowledge formation activities (32’)

- T elicits new words and explains

- Ss give Vietnamese meanings and practice reading new words, then copy down new words - T has Ss play game Bingo in order to check vocabulary

III Speak:

* Ss practice in giving and responding to instructions.

New words:

- Fertilizer (n): Farmers often use this thing to make their plants or trees grow well What is it? -> to fertilize (v) bón phân

- Compost (n) phân bón

-> a compost heap : đống phân bón - fabric ( n ) sợi

- leather (n) da thuộc, đồ da - After listening, T asks Ss to work in pairs and

give their answer

- Ss read the words again and correct - T asks Ss to work in pairs

- Ss practice with your partner about the two conversations

- T asks Ss to make new conversations by using suggested words

- Ss practice them in front of the class - T corrects if necessary

EX :

A: Which group clothes belong to? B : Put them in “ fabric”

A: What can we with those clothes? B : We can recycle them and make them into paper or shopping bags
