Period 15: Getting started – Listen read

I OBJECTIVES

- After studying the lesson, sts will be able to imagine the picture of the countryside - Developing sts' listening and reading skill

- Encouraging sts' pride and love for their country II LANGUAGE CONTENTS:

1 Vocabulary: (textbook/102, 103) 2 Grammar: - S + V , SO + S + V

- S + wish + Clause III METHOD AND TEACHING AIDS:

1 Method: Audio-lingual method, Communicative approach 2 Teaching aids: textbook, pictures, cassette and tapes … IV TEACHING PROCEDURES :

1-Warm up: (game and chatting)

- T asks sts to think about the word having 11 letters -> T gives suggestion: “The word is about the place where farmers live” ( -> COUNTRYSIDE )

- T asks sts some questions about the countryside

1 Have you ever been to the countryside? 2 How often you go there?

3 Where is it?

4 Have you got any relatives there?

5 Are you used to the life and activities in the country side?

- T asks sts to look at the pictures and describe what the people are doing in the pictures

P1: She is watering the vegetables. P2: The children are swimming. P3: The woman is collecting the eggs. P4: The farmers are harvesting crops. P5: He is feeding the pig.

P7: The farmer is plowing the field with his buffalo. P8: The children are playing soccer.

2-Pre-reading

- T introduces the text, then lets sts listen to the tape once (closed books) - Give sts some questions:

+ Where did Ba's family go on Sunday? + How far is it from Ha Noi?

+ How did they go?

+ What did they in the village?

- Collect sts' answers, then explain some new words and structures

* Vocabulary

- Everyone felt tired and hungry, so they st down under the tree and had a snack.

3 While reading

* Sts read the text in silence, then discuss in pair to the exercise (a)

I OBJECTIVES

- After studying the lesson, sts will know more about different villages in their country - Developing sts’ listening and speaking skills Sts can ask for and give information about their own village

II LANGUAGE CONTENTS:

1 Vocabulary: words relating to countryside 2 Grammar: - It takes + S.O + time + to V III METHOD AND TEACHING AIDS:

1 Method: Audio-lingual method, Communicative approach 2 Teaching aids: textbook, pictures, cardboard, cassette and tape … IV TEACHING PROCEDURES :

* Warm up

- Make nine-square cards with number on one side (1 9) and the question words (what, when ,

where , How, … ) on the other side

- Stick the cards on the board so that sts can only see the numbers

- Divide the class into teams The teams will turn the number and make a question about the countryside, using the question words given on the cards

- The team which is faster with more correct questions wins the game

1 Where is your home village?

2 What can you see on the way to your own village? 3 How you go to your home village?

* SPEAKING:

Activity 1: (Role play)

- Have sts read the questions in exercise (a) and the information in the box (page 24)

- Have sts work in pairs, playing the role of A and B to ask and answer about their partner’s home village

Ex1: A: Where is your home village? B: It’s to the west of the city.

A: How far is it from the city ? B: It’s about 15km from the city.

Activity 2 (making dialogue)

- Have sts work in pairs to ask and answer about their partner’s real home village

* LISTENING 1 Pre-listening

* Vocabulary

- route (n) - fuel (n) - gas station

- pond (n) - highway (n) - parking lot - drop S.O off (v)

- Set the scene: “You will listen to a passage about the route to Ba’s village.” - Ask sts to look at the map, guessing the positions of the places on the map 2-While listening

- Ask sts to listen to the tape and check their guess

- Match the places on the bus route with the letters on the map - Give feedback

Answer: A: banyan tree, B: airport, C: high way No.1, D: Dragon bridge, E: gas station, F: store, G: pond, H: bamboo forest, I: parking lot

I OBJECTIVES

- After studying the lesson, sts know more about the life of an exchange student in the USA - Developing sts’ reading skill Sts can understand the text in details

- Encouraging sts to study well so that they will be able to become an exchange someday II LANGUAGE CONTENTS:

1 Vocabulary: (textbook/ p102, 103) 2 Grammar: - conj "so"

- present perfect continuous : S + have/has + been + V-ing III.TEACHING AIDS:

1 Method: Audio-lingual method, PPP

2 Teaching aids: pictures, cardboard, textbook… IV TECHING PROCEDURES:

1-Warm up: (jumbled words)

- Divide the class into teams

- Ask sts from each team to go to the board and write down the correct words - The team which is faster with more correct words wins the game

2- Pre-reading

3-While reading

* Ask sts to read the text in silence then answer the questions:

-> Mr Parker is a farmer, Mrs Parker works part-time at a grocery store 3 How many children they have? -> They have two children.

4 What does Van after finishing his homework? -> He feeds the chicken and collects their eggs. 5 How the Parkers spend their weekend?

-> They eat hamburgers or hot dogs while they watch Peter play baseball.

- Ask sts to work in pairs, match the words in column A with the explanation in column B - Give feedback

I OBJECTIVES

- Improving sts' living skills After studying the lesson, sts, will be able to hold a picnic for themselves

- Developing sts’ writing skill Sts can write a short story about a picnic in the countryside - Encouraging sts to choose an interesting kind of entertainment like going camping or picnic so that they can relax after hard working days

II LANGUAGE CONTENTS: 1 Vocabulary: (textbook/ p102, 103) 2 Grammar: S.past tense

III METHOD AND TEACHING AIDS: 1 Method: Audio-lingual method, PPP

2 Teaching aids: text book, pictures, cardboard… IV TEACHING PROCEDURES:

1-Warm up: (chatting)

- T asks Sts some questions about going on a picnic

1 Have you ever gone on a picnic? 2 When did you go?

3 Where did you go? 4 How did you get there? 5 What did you do?

6 When did you come back home? 7 Did you enjoy it?

2 Pre-writing

- T introduces the requirement of the exercise, explains some new words and reminds sts of the verb form in the S.past tense

It was a beautiful day My friends and I decided to go on a picnic We took a bus to the countryside and then walked about 20 minutes to the picnic site next to the river

We put down the blankets and laid out the food After meal we played the games “What song is it?” and blind man’s bluff Late in the afternoon we went fishing We enjoyed our picnic When we looked at the time, it was nearly 6.30pm We hurriedly gathered our things and ran to the bus stop.

We were lucky to catch the last bus and we arrived home very late in the evening.
