UNIT 9: CITIES OF THE WORLD LESSON : SKILLS ( P 32 ) A OBJECTIVES:

1 Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to read for specific and general information in texts, including postcards; ask and talk about the cities in Viet Nam and in the world

+ Vocabulary: purpose, rent, discover, overall + Grammar:

2 Skills: Practice and develop reading and speaking skills.

3.Attitude: Political thought and moral sense: educate students should read more to understand more about cities in the world especially in Viet Nam and educate them to love the subject more

Competences: Ss can talk about the cities in Viet Nam and in the world. B TEACHING AIDS:

- Textbook , teacher’s book , lesson plan , board , chalks, pictures and posters, computer,TV/projecter

- Chatting, Rub out and remember, Pre - questions, Comprehension questions, Matching and pair - speaking

- T shows the class some postcards then T asks them some questions

Where was this postcards sent from? Who wrote the postcard and to whom?

When was it written? - What was it written about?

- III New lesson: (37 minutes)

Step 1: Pre – reading: (12 minutes) * Vocabulary

- purpose (n): mục đích (translation)

- rent (v): thuê (situation)

- discover (v): khám phá (example)

- overall (adj): toàn thể (translation)

+ Checking vocabulary: Rub out and remember

* Pre-questions ( part p 32) + Set the scene:

- T shows the postcard of Stockholm and says: You are going to read the postcard from Hanh Mai to her grandparents

- T shows questions on the board then runs through

What is the picture on the postcard of? What you think is written on this postcard?

What is the purpose of writing and sending postcards while you are on holiday?

- T gives the instructions: You work in pairs and discuss the questions You give your ideas as many as possible don’t read the text

- T checks Ss’ understanding - T gets Ss’ predictions

Step 2: While-reading (15 minutes) * Activity 1: Read and check

- T asks Ss to scan the postcard then check their predictions

- T gets Ss’ answers gives keys

+ Answer key:

The photo is of Stockholm, Sweden

The sender writes about his/ her stay in the city

We send postcards to tell our family and / or friends that we are having a good time, but still

Ss look at the postcards then answer

- Learn by heart all the vocabulary

- Try to report the results in Part to the class

III New lesson : (37 minutes)

Step 1: Pre – listening: ( 10 minutes) * Vocabulary.

- diploma (n): cấp, văn (explanation)

- medal (n): huy chương, huân chương (picture)

- crown (n): vương miện (picture)

* Concept check: Rub out and remember * T / F statements ( part p 33)

- T sets the scene: You are going to listen about the Old Town in Stockholm, and how Nobel Prizes are awarded every year in Stockholm

- T shows the poster with statements on the board then runs through

1 The Royal Palace is one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe

2 The biggest part of Stockholm is the Old Town

3 Today, the Old Town doesn’t have any cafes, restaurants or shops

4 The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Stockholm

5 The Nobel Prize is presented by the Swedish Prime Minister

- T asks Ss to guess which statements are true and which statements are false
