Câu tường thuật với động từ "to-infinitive"
Loại Câu tường thuật có vị ngữ (object)
Đối với động từ đặc biệt như: invite (mời), ask (hỏi), tell (kể), propose (đề nghị), urge (hối thúc), warn (cảnh báo), order (ra lệnh), beg (van xin), remind (nhắc nhở), advise (khuyên), force (buộc), encourage (khuyến khích), allow (cho phép) Ta sử dụng Công thức chung:
S+ V+ O + (not) TO INF.
1 Tường thuật mệnh lệnh: "told s.b (not) to sth"
Direct: "Put your books away" said the teacher
Reported: The teacher told us to put our books away
2 Tường thuật yêu cầu: "asked sb (not) to sth"
Direct: "Please, don't smoke in this room" said the clerk
Reported: The clerk asked me not to smoke in that room
3 Tường thuật lời khuyên: "advised sb (not) to sth"
Direct: "If I were you, I wouldn't drink so much wine" he said
Reported: He advised me not to drink so much wine
4 Tường thuật lời hứa: "promise to sth"

5 Tường thuật lời cảnh cáo: " warned sb (not) to sth"
Direct: "Don't touch that wire" he said
Reported: He warned me not to touch that wire
6 Tường thuật lời mời: " invited sb to sth"
Direct: " Come for dinner with us to night, will you?" Bill said
Reported: Bill invited me to come for dinner with them that night
7 Tường thuật lời nhắc nhở: "reminded sb to sth"
Direct: "Remember to post my letter on your way" Wendy said
Reported: Wendy reminded me to post her letter on my way
8 Tường thuật lời khuyến khích: "encouraged sb to sth"
Direct: " Go ahead, you must enter for the contest, Jill!" said Pam
Reported: Pam encouraged Jill to enter for the contest
9 Tường thuật lời nài nỉ: "begged/implored sb to sth"
Direct: "Please, me a favor" said the beggar to Carol
Reported: The beggar begged/ implored Carol to him a favor
Loại Câu tường thuật khơng có vị ngữ (object)

Ví dụ:
1 Tường thuật lời chào mời: "offered to sth"
Direct: "Shall I help you with the housework?" said Tim to his wife
Reported: Tim offered to help his wife with the housework
2 Tường thuật lời hứa: "promise to sth"
Direct: "I'll give you a hand, if you like" said Adam
Reported: Adam promised to give me a hand, if I liked
3 Tường thuật lời từ chối: "refuse to sth"
Direct: ‘No, I won’t lend you my car”, he said
Reported: He refused to lend me his car
4 Tường thuật lời chấp thuận: "agreed to sth"
Direct: "Ok, I'll take you to work in my carin, Sue" said Carl
Reported: Carl agreed to take Sue to work in his car
5 Tường thuật đe dọa: "threatened to sth"
Direct: " Get out or I'll call the police" said the woman
Reported: The woman threatened to call the police if he didn't get out
6 Tường thuật lại hy vọng, nguyện vọng : "hope to sth"
(4)Reported: They hoped to arrive in London before nightfall
Lưu ý Khi tường thuật lại câu thi phải giảm thì, nguyên tắc giảm sau:
* Lấy động từ gần chủ từ giảm xuống cột.
e.g: I will go
Động từ will gần chủ từ nên lấy will giảm xuống cột thành - > would: I would go
* Ngoài ra, thời gian phải giảm xuống:
yesterday —> the day before/ the previous day
now —> then
to night —> that night
tomorrow —> the next day the following day
next week —> the following week
last year —> the previous year
Nơi chốn giảm sau:
here —> there
ill is —> that
these —> those
Câu tường thuật với danh động từ
Loại khơng có túc từ hay giới từ giữa

e.g: - Direct: Shall we go for a swim? (Chứng ta bơi nhé.)
Reported: She suggested going for a swim (Cô đề nghị bơi.)
- Direct: I know I am wrong (Tôi biết sai.)
Reported: He admitted being wrong (Anh ta thú nhận minh sai.)
- Direct: "I didn't break that vase," said Tom
Reported: Tom denied breaking/ having broken that vase
- Direct: "Let's have a picnic this weekend," Muad suggested
Reported: Muad suggested having a picnic that weekend
Loại Có túc từ hay giới từ giữa
Ta sử dụng công thức chung:
V (sb) + giới từ + V_ING
- Insist on (nài nỉ, khăng khăng)
Direct: I will pay for the meal said the woman (Tôi trả tiền cho bữa ăn, người phụ nữ nói.)
Reported: The woman insisted on pạvine for the meal (Người phụ nữ khăng khăng đòi trả tiền ăn.)
- Dream of (mơ về)
Direct: I desperately want to become a doctor (Tôi muốn trở thành bác sĩ )
Reported: He dreamed of becoming a doctor (Anh ta mơ thành bác sĩ.)
- Apologize to (sb) for (xin lỗi về)
(6)Reported: The man apologized to (me) for being late (Người đàn ông xin lỗi (tôi) đến muộn.)
- Accuse sb of buộc tội
Direct: You've stolen my bicycle! (Anh ta lấy cắp xe đạp tôi!)
Reported: He accused me of having stolen his bicycle (Anh ta buộc tội ăn cắp xe đạp anh ta)
- Prevent sb from (ngăn khơng cho làm gì)
Direct: I can't let you use die phone (Mẹ cho phép sử dụng điện thoại.)
Reported: My mother prevented me from using the phone (Mẹ không cho dùng điện thoại.)
- Congratulate sb on (chúc mừng việc gì)
Direct: "Congratulations! You won the game!" said the principal
Reported: The principal congratulated the students on winning the game
- Blame sb for (đổ lỗi việc gì)
- Blame sth on sb (đổ tội cho ai)
- Warn sb against (cảnh báo không nên làm điều gì) – lưu ý mẫu khơng dùng not
Direct: Don't swim too far! (Đừng bơi xa!)
Reported: He warned me against swimming too far (Anh ta cảnh báo đừng bơi xa.)
= He warned me not to swim too far
- Thank sb for (Cám ơn việc gì)
Direct: "Thank you very much for your advice," he said
(7)- warned sb against (doing) sth (cảnh cáo về)
Direct: "Don't invest in that business," said my lawyer
Reported: My lawyer warned me against investing in that business
- confessed to (doing) sth (thừa nhận làm việc gì)
Direct: "It was me who stole the money," said Jack
Reported: Jack confessed to stealing the money
