MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING THUONG MAI UNIVERSITY **ENGLISH FACULTY** —————    ————— PRESENTATION ‘Corporate culture’ and its influences on individuals in a company Illustrate the topic with specific examples Group: Classcode: 2092ENPR4811 Ha Noi, 2020 LIST OF MEMBERS NAME STUDENT CODE TASK - Introduction Bùi Thị Huyền Trang 19D170117 - Defination of “corporate culture” - Influences of Nguyễn Đặng Anh Thư 19D170116 Nguyễn Đỗ Quỳnh Dương 19D170010 Nguyễn Thị Thu Thảo 19D170111 “corporate culture” on individuals - Examples - What makes “corporate culture” toxic? - Conclusion SCORE TOPIC: ‘Corporate culture’ and its influences on individuals in a company Illustrate the topic with specific examples I INTRODUCTION II BODY DEFINATION OF “CORPORATE CULTURE” Corporate culture is the beliefs and ideas that a company has and the way in which they affect how it does business and how its employees behave If employees share a company’s ethics, vision and other cultural elements, it can positively affect a company’s bottom line Companies with good corporate culture often have high workplace morale, and highly engaged, productive staff  Core values: Core values of an organization are those values they hold which from the foundation on which they perform work and conducts ourselves  Beliefs: There is a essential factor for workplace relationship, it affects employees satisfaction, retention and productivity Beliefs create the power in a company, it comes from the trust of each person, in leadership, in staff, in work and in product  Corporate ethics: Corporate ethics is the study of appropriate business policies and practices regarding potentially controversial subjects including corporate governance, insider trading, bribery, discrimination, corporate social responsibility, and fiduciary responsibilities  Rules of behavior: That there is an obligation concerning conduct, action, practice, or procedure; a business rule whose purpose is to shape (govern) day-to-day business activity and prevent undesirable situations (states) that could occur at any of various points in time An example of great corporate culture: That is Netflix Netflix’s culture is described by freedom and responsibility For Netflix, a great workplace consists of a ‘dream team in pursuit of ambitious common goals’ rather than cheap thrills and shiny perks It expects its staff to strive for excellence and work as a team to achieve the best results they can Nonetheless, employees love the sense of trust and flexibility that they have, as the company encourages its staff to take the initiative and create their own work schedules INFLUENCES OF “CORPORATE CULTURE” ON INDIVIDUALS IN A COMPANY As mentioned, corporate culture is described as the set of beliefs, norms, values and individual personalities that represent the way an organization completes business related activities The set of these things are different for every company and undertaken unconditionally in the long run What important is that no culture is wrong or right, as long as it does not hinder development or negatively impact on work quality Apparently, there is an undeniable fact that company culture has a great influence on employees  Influence on employee performance Employee performance is partially manipulated by cultures in the corporate A culture, which must be strong widely communicated and reinforced, lays a prospective foundation for success For instance, many companies these days tend to establish a new workplace which fosters the individual's creativity by working in pairs, groups, concentrating on the practice, decorating rooms with bright colors and so on In addition, unwritten rules and ways of doing things both good and bad - are ingrained in the corporate world, following unwritten rules, despite seeming to be ridiculous at first, employees finally find it helping them create a good habit to work better  Influence on employee emotion and spirit The corporate culture impacts employees on emotion and spirit A positive company culture can ensure that employees remain satisfied with their job and loyal to the organization This can be extremely beneficial in a competitive hiring environment People are much more interested in signing in (and staying) with a company culture that promotes flexibility, supports employee development and offers work-life balance There is no undue pressure that hinders individual capacity Improving employee satisfaction through a strong and supportive company culture can reduce recruiting, hiring and training expenses while improving morale and increasing profits  Influence on employee engagement I’ve made it clear that a strong company culture has quite an impact on an organization, as well as employee performance and satisfaction Another issue which is noteworthy for recruiters is the long lasting employee engagement as a consequence of being controlled by corporate culture In companies with good communication practices, employees know their opinions and ideas are welcomed When they feel heard, they don't carry the resentment that can lead to absenteeism, negative and termination Cultures that bolster employee development and growth give workers something to work toward and look forward to Such cultures prevent boredom and job stagnation while keeping things exciting and interesting Company culture is more important than ever In today’s highly competitive business environment, everything from sales to recruiting becomes more challenging One way to make it all easier is by being a company that people want to business with and work for Smart organizations know that a strong, positive company culture is one of their most important assets EXAMPLES OF SUCCESS COMPANIES THANKS TO CORPORATE CULTURE  VINGROUP Vingroup brings together the most capable Vietnamese and international professionals who possess intellect and discipline, talent and determination, patriotism and ethnic pride, charity, good intentions, and intense work ethics Vingroup is one of the biggest private conglomerate in Asia with a market capitalization value of around US $16 billion As a multi-sector corporation, Vingroup focuses on three main areas: - Technology - Industrials - Property - Services Vingroup continues to pioneer and lead consumer trends in each of its businesses introducing Vietnamese consumers to a brand new, modern life-style with international-standard products and services Vingroup has created a respected, well-recognized Vietnamese brand and is proud to be one of the nation's leading private enterprises Why does Vingroup have such success and that employees have such a good work ethic? Which not only thanks to a good leader, but also the corporate culture We will base on some individual aspect of the corporate culture to show that:  Employee performance Innovation must be constant and continuous to accomplish the goals of "Best People - Best Products & Services - Best Life - Best Society" With each passing day, all across Vietnam, day and night, rain or shine, projects bearing the Vingroup brand continue to rise This non-stop effort is to ensure sustained development of the Group and bring future generations a better life Moreover, the Group applies its determination and passion not only in the workplace but also in its cultural and community activities To promote the "Healthy Body - Happy Spirit – Nimble Mind" campaign, each Friday afternoon the company organizes a "Healthy Living Festival" where employees participate in active entertainment activities such as Flashmob dancing and intramural sports such as volleyball, soccer, and tennis Thus, employees can both work in a serious environment and play comfortably, which will help employees' performance better  Employee happiness Thanks to those collective activities, each Vingroup employee becomes closer together Furthermore, they have enjoyed the privilege of salaries, bonuses, fair treatment, and good leaders Therefore, they always feel happy and excited about their work  Employee engagement  Communication: Vingroup has good communication practices, employees know their opinions and ideas are welcomed Therefore, despite they have under pressure in the working, they always give opinions and creative thoughts themselves  Safety: No matter how much they work, Vingroup also puts safety as one of the top criteria They always concern about the health of their employees and the employees also try to work to avoid excessive conflicts  Collaboration: In Vingroup, the employees are always cooperating with each other to work in groups, both promoting cohesion and improving working efficiency  Growth: Thanks to the above cultures, Vingroup is increasingly developing in both Vietnam and the international market That not only marks the milestone of Vingroup but also can confirm Vietnam's position in the international competitive market  OTHERS: Big companies like Apple, Facebook, Twitter also thanks to the corporate culture that they put a ding in the universe WHAT MAKES CULTURE TOXIC? 10 Promoting the values you want in your organization doesn't guarantee they'll be adopted In any organization, there are multiple influences on people's behavior In some organizations, those influences push culture to the dark side Poor communication If managers don't talk openly to their staff, or if employees can't share their thoughts with management, that leads to a breakdown in trust A toxic employee who backstabs or bullies colleagues can erode organizational culture If management doesn't rein the employee in, other employees may assume the company will tolerate them behaving the same way Prioritizing profit above everything else encourages employees to cut ethical corners to suit the bottom line Setting employees competing against each other works against building a cooperative culture Micromanagement If employees feel they're under constant scrutiny, they stress out Resistance to change makes it harder to fight the negative impact of organizational culture If managers or other workers don't perform to the company's standards, employees will realize how much they can get away with 11 Lack of engagement If the company shows no interest in employees, that makes it harder for them to care A negative culture has the opposite effect: An organizational culture that doesn't value quality work gives the employees no reason to strive for quality A culture that tolerates bad behavior gives other employees license to behave the same way Unhealthy organizational culture leaves employees feeling miserable, with decreased motivation to commit to their job An unpleasant culture can increase employee turnover because nobody wants to stick around where they're miserable If the culture becomes known outside the company, it may become harder to attract new recruits too 12 13 ... company Illustrate the topic with specific examples I INTRODUCTION II BODY DEFINATION OF ? ?CORPORATE CULTURE” Corporate culture is the beliefs and ideas that a company has and the way in which they affect...
