TAXATION What is tax? What is taxation?  Tax is compulsory fee imposed on individuals or corporations by the government to finance public programs How are taxes classified?  Based on what imposed taxes: corporate income tax, personal income tax, custom duty, excise tax, payroll tax, inheritance tax/ capital transfer tax, capital gain tax, VAT, - Corporate Tax is the tax imposed on the profit of a business - Personal income tax is the tax imposed on personal income - Customs duty is the tax imposed on imports - Excise tax is imposed on specific goods and services - Payroll tax taxes are the taxes computed based on payrolls such as social insurance and health insurance - Inheritance tax (or capital transfer tax) is the tax levied on individuals who inherit the estate of a deceased person - Capital gain tax is the tax liable to profits made from the sale of assets - VAT (Value Added Tax) is the tax collected at each stage of production, excluding the already-taxed costs from previous stages  Based on tax rates: progressive taxes, regressive taxes - Progressive tax is the tax levied at a higher tax rate on a higher income - Regressive tax is the tax taking a larger percentage of income from lowincome earners than from high-come earners  Based on paying tax manner: direct tax, indirect tax - Direct taxes are taxes in which the tax payers have to contribute tax bills directly to the tax offices - Indirect taxes are taxes in which the last consumers have to incur, but producers contribute tax bills to the tax offices What are some functions of tax?  To raise government revenue:  Regulate the market economy  To control inflation - The functions of income taxes are to redistribute of income and encourage capital investment - The function of excise tax is to restrict the consumption of some special G & S - The function of customs duty is to protect the domestic production and ensure jobs for local people - The function of payroll tax is to ensure security and medicare What is tax heaven?  Tax heaven mean the country with the low tax rate What is laundering money?  Laundering money means you put the money in different company to disguise the ordination of money What is tax avoidance?
