the formation of Vietnamese traditional ethical values and the importance of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today Thirdly, clarifying the current situation of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today Fourthly, proposing some basic and feasible solutions to improve the effectiveness of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today Subjects and research scope of the thesis 3.1 Research subjects: Educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today 3.2 Research scope: The thesis presented some typical traditional ethical values; I did not listed and analyzed the whole ones in Vietnam Timebound of researching is within last 10 years The rationale and research method of the thesis 4.1 The rationale: The thesis is based on the theoretical basis of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's thought; guidelines and policies of the Party and State; resolutions and documents of Vietnam Youth Union, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and other departments of LongAn province related to youth and educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth 4.2 Research methods: The thesis uses the methods of dialectical materialism and historical materialism Besides, it combines using other methods such as analyzing, synthesizing, analyzing statistically New contributions about scientific of the thesis - The thesis contributes to the necessity and importance of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today - The thesis contributes to assessing the current situation and proposing some basic solutions to improve the effectiveness in educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today The theoretical and practical significance of the thesis 6.1 The theoretical significance: The thesis contributes to clarify in terms of theoretical issues about educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province in particular and in Vietnam in general 6.2 Practical significance: The research result of the thesis is recommended for educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today, especially the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union organizations, Vietnam Youth Union, Vietnam Student Association, Education and Training, Propaganda Department, The structure of thesis Thesis includes the introduction, conclusion, list of published works from the authors relating to the thesis, the list of references, the thesis consists of chapters and 14 periods Chapter Overview of research situation related to the thesis topic 1.1 Studies related to the national traditional ethical values and the importance of educating those values for Vietnamese youth today 1.1.1 Studies related to the national traditional ethical values in general Regarding this content, it can be mentioned to Tran Van Giau's work named Giatri tinh than truyenthong cua dantoc Viet Nam (tentatively translated as: Traditional spiritual values of Vietnamese people); on the other hand, it also created unbalanced development in the personality of Vietnamese people in general and Vietnamese youth in particular 1.2 The research works related to the current situation and solutions to improve the effectiveness of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today 1.2.1 The research works related to the current situation of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth Concerning to this content, there are many works such as Van hoa voi nien, nien voi van hoa mot so van de ly luan va thuc tien (tentatively translated as: Cuture with youth, youth with culture, some theoretical and practical issues) of the Central Cutural Center Department; The work of Tran Thi AnhDao named Cong tac giaoduc ly luan chinh tricho sinh vien Viet Nam hien (tentatively translated as: The education about political theoretical for Vietnamese students today); Giaoducdaoduc moi cho sinh vien dieu kien kinh te thi truong o Viet Nam hien (tentatively translated as: Educating new morality for students in the current market economy conditions in Viet Nam now) written by Luong Gia Ban and Nguyen The Kiet; Giaoducnien ke However, the scientific study of the importance of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province is not yet available 1.3.2 The research works related to the current situation of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today The study of the situation is also rarely, it is only mentioned in some general reports of Youth Union, Provincial Party Committee, People's Committee, some sectors such as: Report No 116-BC/TU, Conclusion No 139-KL/TU of the Provincial Standing Committee, Report No 253/BCUBND of the Provincial People's Committee, Report No 202/BC-HDND of Provincial People's Council, Report No 446-BC/TDTN-TG of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union 1.3.3 The research works related to solutions to improve the effectiveness of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today LongAn also has some specific guidelines on solutions such as: Action Program No 19-CTr/TU of the Provincial Party Committee, Directive No 78-CT/TU of the Provincial Standing Committee, Plan No 3955/KH-UBND, No 29/KH-UBND of the Provincial People's Committee, Report No 202/BC-HDND Provincial People's Council, Report No 446-BC/TDTN-TG of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union 1.4 Overview of research results of scientific related to the thesis and problems set out that need further studying Firstly, the content of traditional ethical values has been addressed and discussed extensively by many authorities These are considered as valuable references for the author to refer to and further clarify the thesis 10 Secondly, the Vietnamese government is paying attention to the development of young citizens in an attempt to educate them the traditional ethical values, therefore, there are many researches related to this topic in general However, in specifically in LongAn province, researches on this issues has not been concerned Thirdly, As mentioned above, educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today still remains new in terms of both theory and practical, without any specific and specializes research Therefore, on the basis of previous research results, from the point of view of published successes and unresolved issues, the thesis continues to study in educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today The study has the following objectives: - Firstly, indicate a review of the literature associated with the formation and the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition - Secondly, identify the importance of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today - Thirdly, analyzing and evaluating the current situation of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today - Fourthly, proposes some solutions to improve the efficiency of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today Conclusion for Chapter The research topic of traditional ethical values is not new; there are many works on this topic However, there is few research working on this issue, especially for the young people Hence, it is undeniable the usefulness of this topic in contributing to educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today 11 Chapter The traditional ethical values and the importance of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today 2.1 The traditional ethical values 2.1.1 Ethic Ethic is a form of social awareness, it takes various forms and has its definitions shaped by socio-political standards and values prevailing at the time Ethics is also associated with standards of behavior justified by people as right and proper, and is to be conducted willingly without the interference of law Ethics is also understood as perspectives, viewpoints and behavior of people in such social relations as self in relation to other persons, groups and organizations Structure of ethic: Research on structure of ethics, from the perspective of consciousness and practice, it can be seen that there are two different systems of ethics existing in Vietnamese society – ethical consciousness and ethical practice Ethical consciousness consists of knowledge, affection and will Characteristics of ethic: Firstly, ethics is subject to the impact of economic conditions, when economic conditions change, ethics will also have a certain change Secondly, in addition to economic conditions, ethics is also influenced by other social areas of life, such as law, politics, Thirdly, in a class society, the mainstream ethics is always the morality of the ruling class Fourth, inheritance, this is the basic rule of ethic 2.1.2 Traditional ethic Traditional ethic refers to the norms, precepts, principles and moral codes, which regulate the conduct and actions of individuals in societies 12 Traditional ethics has been expressed by thought, norms, habits and behaviors in a community which has been handed down to further generations 2.1.3 Traditional ethical values Positive points in traditional ethic are often called traditional ethical values Traditional ethical values consist of positive thought, norms, precepts, principles and moral codes, passed through generations and volunteered by community 2.2 The ethical values of Vietnamese tradition: formation and fundamental values 2.2.1 The formation of the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition The fundamental traditional ethical values of Vietnam is made by natural and social conditions, which are economy, history, politic and culture 2.2.2 The fundamental ethical values of Vietnamese tradition The fundamental ethical values of Vietnamese tradition have been mentioned in the documents of Vietnamese Communist Party and Government; is of great interest to scholars In the framework of the thesis, we will analyze some of the following values: patriotism; philanthropy; solidarity; diligence; thriftiness; studiousness 2.3 The youth in LongAn province and the importance of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today 2.3.1 Characteristics of the youth in LongAn province * Overview of LongAn province: LongAn is a province connecting the East and Southwest region of Vietnam, the North borders Cambodia and Tay Ninh province, the East borders Ho Chi Minh city and the Xoai Rap river, the South borders Tien 13 Giang province, the West borders Dong Thap province LongAn Province has 15 districts, township and city Although today’s life has changed a lot, but, the basic traditional elements inside LongAn people, such as deep patriotism, studiousness, hospitality, heartiness is still preserved and developed * Overview of the youth in Vietnam There are as yet many different understandings about the term "youth" In Vietnam, the highest legal document relating to youth is the Youth Law regulating youth ages from 16 to 30 years old At this age, young people have certain physical maturity, but in terms of physiological and personality, they are still in the process of improvement; there is still the youth's obstinacy * Characteristics of the youth in LongAn province The youth in LongAn province accounts for 21.9% of the total population of the province, is a social force with potential in many sectors, has been making positive contributions to the economic and social development in the province In general, the youth in LongAn province now have common characteristics of the youth class and have specific characteristics of the province people affected by the socio-economic conditions, geographical position and customs That is: continuous endeavor, volunteering, leading in hard times, dynamic, creativity, studiousness, ambition However, along with their advantages, due to their psychological characteristics, the youth in LongAn province also have limitations on acquiring and receiving in educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for them That is: the lack of a deep understanding of the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition because of the fledgling age; living away from family, 2.3.2 The importance of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today 14 Educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province is the process of purposeful impact of education to LongAn youth to form positive thoughts, norms, rules, customs and practices The subject of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province is family, school, society… Methods and forms of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province can be lectures, competition, exemplifying, practicing; can also through social activities… For the youth in LongAn province, educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition is shown in the following contents: Firstly, providing knowledge about the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition; Secondly, improving and raising moral ideals and virtue ethics; Thirdly, overcoming the limitations on personality, ensuring more harmonious development of the youth in LongAn province; Fourthly, create trust for LongAn youth in the current development Conclusion for Chapter It can be affirmed that, in the system of Vietnamese traditional values, traditional ethical values play a particularly important role These values create Vietnamese national identity throughout our history, in the fight against invaders, in the contact with other nations of the world Therefore, educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province is now an essential task Through that, in order to form the youth generation of LongAn province that have knowledge about the proud values of the nation; creating trust, overcoming limitations on their personality 15 Chapter The reality of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today 3.1 Achievements in educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today Firstly, Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee have issued many resolutions, guidelines and directives in which the content of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province is a top-priority, aiming to make this educational work increasingly effective Along with that is the implementation of the above documents and resolutions Through regular conferences with Standing Committee of LongAn Provincial Youth Union, organizing meetings and dialogues with young people, thereby, the proposals and recommendations of young people are recognized and resolved by the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee Secondly, in the documents and resolutions of LongAn Provincial Youth Union, the issue of moral education, lifestyle, revolutionary ideals, national traditions for young people is always the target of attention Along with that, the Provincial Youth Federation has organized many social and political activities such as “The leading youth to build a learning society”, “Young people volunteer for community life”, “Youth for peaceful life and national sovereignty”, and “Youth for good living” thereby, play an important role in educating traditional moral values for young people In the work of educating youth, Youth Union and Youth Federation have initially focused on innovating the content and methods of educating, such as propaganda and education, or creating “Youth Television program” and “Website of LongAn youth” 16 Thirdly, Families in LongAn now focus on moral education for their members, keep maintaining the traditional order in family relations; grandparents, parents are still examples of sharing, caring for family members That way of life has partly influenced, positively affected and imparted traditional moral values to their descendants The school initially took the appropriate time and method to educate the traditional ethical values for youth and students; establishing scholarship funds to encourage the studious spirit of young people in the province; uphold exemplary Thanks to the efforts of such educators, currently, most LongAn youth have acquired the traditional ethical values, reflected in some of the following basic contents: Firstly, most LongAn youth love the homeland and the country with passion, carry on solidarity and the revolutionary tradition of their father; Secondly, caring and sharing with people around, with the community; Thirdly, always desire to learn and increase their knowledge; Fourthly, always show the hard working spirit, strive to rise in their life 3.2 The limitations on educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today Although there has been a lot of effort in Long An, however, there is currently no drastic in the conduction and administration in many places; then it leads to the efficiency is not good as expected target and practical requirements As the mentioned results, there are many major targets and projects relating to this work, have been quite general, no specific ones All of them have a significant impact on the apprehension of the youth in LongAn province about the national traditional ethical values You can see that in three issues: Firstly, some young people have shown “uncertainty” in the ideal of national construction; Secondly, their lifestyle ignored people around them and don’t care about social activities; Thirdly, 17 some young people lack the high spirit of studiousness, diligence and thriftiness; they don’t have the will to develop their life There are some reasons for such restrictions listed below: Firstly, some party committees, local governments and appropriate authorities are lack of the interest, or just interested in appearance; Secondly, the social evils, corruption and moral degradation of a large number of cadres, party members, and elderly people have a direct impact on youth’s feeling and emotion; Thirdly, the investment in teaching social sciences and humanities has not paid attention more yet; Fourthly, the methods and forms of education are rigid, the facilities are not good enough, have not created the healthy environment for young people, helping them away from the bad things; Fifthly, the impact of the disadvantages of the market economy, globalization, industrialization and modernization and the media Conclusion of Chapter With the interest of the political system, educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province in recent years has achieved many important results However, due to many different reasons, the current education about national traditional ethical values for young people is still limited Therefore, it is necessary to have effective and synchronous solutions for all levels of authorities and all sectors in order to continue promoting the advantages and overcome the limitations on this conduction 18 Chapter Some basic solutions to improve the effectiveness of educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today 4.1 Focusing on strengthening the role of party committees, local governments and social organizations in educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today Firstly, to level of party committees, local governments It is necessary to specify guidelines and policies of the Party and the Government on works for youth; summarize, gaining experience, evaluate the achieved results; continue creating conditions for young people to be educated, trained and challenged; ensure the physical and mental conditions for them to mature in a healthy way; solve the problem about jobs for young people Secondly, to Youth Union, Youth Federation They should renovate the organization and operation methods of the Federation, the Union; overcome the administrative nature in gathering the youth; keep associating with media to expand programs for youth In addition, the Youth Union and Youth Federation can create other lively methods and forms to educate young people in LongAn province such as organizing youth storming-teams, celebrating music contests about revolutionary traditional songs, traveling and researching about human being’s history, Thirdly, to families, schools and other educators Parents, grandparents, elders must be a good example for their children to follow They should respect their elders, unite, work together effectively in children's education, in value orientation; know how to share, contribute to the community and society; strictly abide by 19 government's laws; regularly cultivate our morality, improve qualifications and skills of managing and educating children Teachers in schools need to change their perceptions about educational goals; reevaluate and invest more in subjects teaching about morality, political theory, humanities and social sciences Social opinion, unions, lineages with their own principles also need to have activities to improve effectiveness in educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province In this stage, it is necessary to coordinate and synchronize in education, to avoid "speak one way and act another” Thus, it can create a comprehensive and combined power to improve effectiveness in educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province 4.2 Diversifying methods and forms of education for young people The forms of education should be diverse According to the specific situation in LongAn and the current situation of the youth in LongAn province, in our opinion, it is necessary to pay attention to the methods and forms of education below Firstly, combining theory and practice, creating a realistic practical environment to educate young people Secondly, summarizing the effective models and typical examples to introduce and replicate Thirdly, well implementing the Directive No 05-CT/TW dated May 19th, 2016 from the Politburo on "Promoting learning and following Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and style" 4.3 Enhancing the role of cultural institutions in educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for the youth in LongAn province today 20 Cultural institutions play an important role in educating the ethical values of Vietnamese tradition for everyone in general and young people in particular To further enhance the role of cultural institutions, ones in LongAn should organize contests to learn about national history, tradition and traditional art for young people , implement socialization, adopt policies to encourage individuals, communities, businesses and social organizations to contribute resources for building institutional systems and to participate in activities;
