HA LONG BAY

• Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province.

• Located in the North East of Vietnam, from Hanoi

151 kilometres in the northeast

• It’s near Hai Phong Province, But it’s more interesting than Hai Phong Province!

1 Location

• Administsratively, the bay belongs to Ha Long City, Cam Pha City and it’s a part of Van Don District.

2 History

• The name Ha Long means “descending dragon

• To assist the Vietnamese in defending their country, the gods sent a family of dragons as protector.

• The place where the mother drgon descended with her children so it was named Ha Long or Bai Tu Long

3 Features

• Hạ Long Bay has an area of around 1,553 km2, including 1,960–2,000 islets, most of which are limestone

• It has many islands and caves.

• In 1994, the core zone of Ha Long Bay was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site

• A community of around 1,600 people live on

Ha Long Bay in four fishing villages: Cua Van,

Ba Hang, Cong Tau and Vong Vieng in Hung Thang commune, Ha Long city
