1 U TILIZING THE MISUMI 3D CAD L IBRARY – I NTRODUCTION

The MISUMI 3D CAD Library is based upon the PARTsolutions PARTdataManager application, which allows you to search or navigate for the MISUMI part that meets your needs, and then place it into your design with the click of a button This document will assist you become familiar with this digital catalog

In order to utilize the MISUMI 3D CAD Library, the following requirements must be met:

Operating Systems Supported: Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional

Microsoft® Windows® NT Microsoft® Windows® 2000 System Memory: 512 Mb Minimum, 1 Gb Preferred

A CD-ROM drive

This MISUMI 3D CAD Library supports the following CAD formats:

o Autodesk® Inventor® – Versions 8, 9, 10, 11, 2008 (Direct Insert or Macro 3D*)

o Autodesk AutoCAD® (DWG or DXF Formats)

o Autodesk Mechanical Desktop® (DWG or DXF Formats)

o Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks® 2003-2008 (Direct Insert or Macro 3D)

o DWG 2D, DWG 3D

o DXF 2D, DXF 3D

o IGES 2D, IGES 3D

o PTC Pro/ENGINEER® Wildfire 1.0, 2.0 & 3.0

Upon inserting the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, you will see the user interface below If for any reason you do not, please run the program D:\software\cdstart.exe (where “D:” represents your CD-ROM Drive).

1.2 MISUMI 3D CAD Library

Choosing the “MISUMI 3D CAD Library” option will start the MISUMI 3D CAD Library in PARTsolutions PARTdataManager

The first screen displayed will be a registration wizard By registering your CD with MISUMI, you will be able to receive update information on the CD-ROM, new catalogs & other special offers & promotions

Once you have completed the registration, you will see the MISUMI 3D CAD Library as shown below

This option will start the Quick Start Tutorial, which includes several videos to help familiarize you with the MISUMI 3D CAD Library

The “User Guide” option opens this detailed “Using

the MISUMI 3D CAD Library” document This

document requires Adobe PDF Reader, which can

be downloaded from the www.adobe.com website

2 PART DATA M ANAGER U SER I NTERFACE O VERVIEW

The PARTdataManager application is a user interface to allow for the search, display and export of components in the MISUMI 3D CAD Library Like many software applications, the application can be run either from pulldown menus, or via icons in the user interface

The user interface icons documented below are utilized when running the MISUMI 3D CAD Library

Selecting the “Search” icon reveals the search window shown below, which is utilized to perform

a variety of searches within PARTdataManager In the example shown below, the keyword

“guides” is used to find matches in the MISUMI 3D CAD Library

2.2 Part Selection

Selecting the “Part Selection” icon will display the MISUMI 3D CAD Library part selection window The windows are automatically tiled in the space available in the main window This icon is a convenient way to return to part selection after having configured a MISUMI product

The “Part View” icon provides the view of a selected part in the MISUMI 3D CAD Library, as shown below

2.6 Export to CAD

The “Export to CAD” icons and the Export / File command from the menu bar provide options for

exporting your MISUMI part or assembly to CAD applications as well as several neutral CAD formats

This MISUMI 3D CAD Library supports the following CAD formats:

o Autodesk® Inventor® – Versions 8, 9, 10, 11, 2008 (Direct Insert or Macro 3D *)

o Autodesk AutoCAD® (DWG or DXF Formats)

o Autodesk Mechanical Desktop® (DWG or DXF Formats)

o Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks® 2003-2008 (Direct Insert or Macro 3D *)

o DWG 2D, DWG 3D

o DXF 2D, DXF 3D

o IGES 2D, IGES 3D

4 S ELECTING AND C ONFIGURING MISUMI P RODUCTS

The process of selecting MISUMI components within PARTdataManager is very intuitive

1 Once you have started the PARTdataManager application from the CD-ROM, your screen will look similar to this display

2 To select MISUMI components, simply double-click the MISUMI icon, or use right click “open” on the MISUMI icon to move to the next level in the hierarchy

3 Once the catalog is open, the hierarchy may be navigated in the left hand window which is a

“Windows Explorer” like menu structure, or in the right hand window which shows the MISUMI products in a “Symbols” or “Details” display

4 Navigate through the product folders via double-clicks or via right-click “open”

5 Once you have located a part or assembly with the part icon, double-click or right-click “open” to enter the “Part View” mode, which appears as follows:

6 Fields that appear with a yellow background are configurable Simply click on the numeric value to display alternative values, or to display the range of acceptable values

7 Once you have selected and/or configured your MISUMI product, use the export functions

This section describes the process of exporting MISUMI products into your Autodesk Inventor®,

AutoCAD® and Mechanical Desktop® CAD sessions

Please refer to the Quick Start Tutorial for an example in Autodesk Inventor®

The “Inventor 3D” option is the best method, but in some cases, you may prefer to use the macro

option For example, if you do not have a copy of Autodesk Inventor® on your computer and you need

to export a part in Autodesk Inventor® format, the macro option is the best choice Using neutral data formats will also work, but will result in a basic representation of the part (i.e not as if it was created in Autodesk Inventor®)

The “Export to CAD” icons and the Export / File command from the menu bar provide options for

exporting your MISUMI part or assembly to Autodesk® CAD applications as well as several other CAD applications and neutral CAD formats A local installation of Inventor is required

1 To export directly to Autodesk Inventor®,

configure your MISUMI product and then

select the “Inventor 3D” option

2 Enter destination folder:

IMPORTANT: If Autodesk Inventor® is active, the part will appear on the screen, and the part will

be saved in a “MISUMI” folder within the “Destination Directory” specfied If Autodesk Inventor® is not active, then the part will be created in the same folder, but will not appear on the screen

5.2 Autodesk nventor “Inventor Macro 3D” Example

1 Configure your MISUMI product and then use the Export menu or CAD Export icon and select

“Inventor Macro 3D”

2 Enter Destination File:

3 Within Autodesk Inventor®, select the “Tools, Macro, Visual Basic Editor” option:

4 Within the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor select “File, Import File” and locate the file specified in Step

# 2 above

5 Select “DocumentProject” in the Project Explorer Window

6 Select “Run, Run Macro” or push the “Run Macro” button

7 Select “CreateInventorDocument”, and the select “Run”

8 When prompted, enter c:\cadfiles\ or another valid directory for scratch files during the part creation process

IMPORTANT: Part creation will not complete properly if an invalid directory is specified

9 The part is created by PARTsolutions and is displayed in Inventor:

5.3 Autodesk AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop “DWG 2D” Example

1 Configure your MISUMI product, and select the 2D icon to enter 2D mode:

2 Use the Export menu or CAD Export icon and select “DWG 2D”

3 Specify a file name, Select the preferred AutoCAD version, and choose which views to export Then select “OK”

4 Import and place your views in AutoCAD or Mechanical Desktop

IMPORTANT: Your Solid Edge session must be active before selecting the “Export to CAD” options

described below

The “Export to CAD” icons and the Export / File command from the menu bar provide options for

exporting your MISUMI part or assembly to the Solid Edge CAD application as well as several other CAD applications and neutral CAD formats

Simply select the Export to Solid Edge option from the Export pulldown or Export icon, and you r

selected part will be built in your Solid Edge session

A PPLICATIONS

This section describes the process of exporting MISUMI products into your PTC Pro/ENGINEER CAD sessions

IMPORTANT: Pro/ENGINEER licensing requires that PARTdataManager has visibility to a valid

installation of Pro/ENGINEER Mapped network drives must be used, UNC-paths (\\server\share\ ) can cause issues with auxiliary applications with Pro/ENGINEER Your Pro/ENGINEER session should be active before selecting the “Export to CAD” options described below

The “Export to CAD” icons and the Export / File command from the menu bar provide options for

exporting your MISUMI part or assembly to the PTC Pro/ENGINEER CAD application as well as several other CAD applications and neutral CAD formats

Simply select the Export to ProE Wildfire option from the Export pulldown or Export icon, and your selected part will be built in your Pro/ENGINEER session A local installation of Pro/EGINEER is

required

A PPLICATION

This section describes the process of exporting MISUMI products into your Dassault Systèmes

SolidWorks CAD sessions

In some cases, you may prefer to use the macro option For example, if you do not have a copy of SolidWorks on your computer and you need to export a part in SolidWorks format, the macro option is the best choice Using neutral data formats will also work, but will result in a basic representation of the part (i.e not as if it was created in SolidWorks)

IMPORTANT: Your SolidWorks session should be active before selecting the “Export to CAD”

options described below

The “Export to CAD” icons and the Export / File command from the menu bar provide options for

exporting your MISUMI part or assembly to the SolidWorks CAD application as well as several other CAD applications and neutral CAD formats

Simply select the Export to SolidWorks 3D option from the Export pulldown or Export icon, and your selected part will be built in your SolidWorks session A local installation of SolidWorks is required

If you require a SolidWorks macro file for delivery to another

computer or via email, select the “SolidWorks Macro 3D” option
