Work in groups Talk about the school education system in Vietnam , using the information from Task 1 Ex: In Vietnam, children can go to Nursery school when they are from 3 to 4 and go to Kindergarten when they from 4 to 5, but this stage is optional. It is according to the children’s ability. ____ TASK 3____ (15 min) - To show Ss to complete the task supplied. - To encourage Ss to give some similarities and differences between the school system in Vietnam and in England. _ Asks students to notice some points: 1. level of education 2. terms 3. the National curriculum 4. subjects taught in school 5. age 6. tuition fee _ asks some students to present their talks to the whole class. _ ask some of them to give comments on their friends’ talks. * WORK IN GROUPS: - To listen to the teacher. - To have Ss talk about similarities and differences between the school system in Vietnam and in England. - Work in groups of fours to find the information they need to complete the task given. - Some of them present their talks to the whole class. - Some of them give comments on their friends’ talks. I think there are certain differences and similarities between school system in Vietnam and that in England. The first, there are some similarities: Both systems have the same three levels of education and the starting age of schooling. The children can attend Pre-school when they are from three to five, and both stages are optional. Then when students finish the compulsory education, they have to take an examination called GCSE. The second, I want to talk some differences between two school systems: In Vietnam, the starting age of schooling is obligatory but in England there isn’t such a strict and unreasonable rule of starting age of schooling. This means pupil can attend class if she or he has enough capacity as required. Suggested answer: The formal school system in Vietnam consists of two levels: Primary and Secondary education. Children start Grade 1 at the age of 6 and normally complete the primary education at the age of 10. They move to lower secondary school to study in Grade 6 when they are eleven years old. They will finish nine – year compulsory education when they complete Grade 9 ate the age of 14. The children may go to upper secondary schools if the pass all the tests at the end of Grade 9. They will stay there until they complete Grade 12 at the age of 17. if they want to sit for the entrance exam to universities or collages, they have to take the national examination for GCSE which take place Teacher: Nguyen Quang Hai Tan Lam Upper Secondary School English 12 at the end of May or beginning of June. The academic year in Vietnam runs from September to May and is divided into two terms. The first term ends in January with one day holiday and the second term finishes in May before a long summer holiday comes.
