Mitsuboshi’s A325 and A490 high strength bolts with NKYM brand, covering Type 1, Type

2 and Type 3 with size range, 1/2 to 1-1/2 in., are enjoying ever increasing reputation

among engineering and architectural people in building and bridge construction industries

Materials and Manufacture

The steel for bolts, nuts and washers is made by the open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric furnace process

Bolts, nuts and washers are heat treated under uniform conditions described in Table 1

They are quenched in oil or in a suitable liquid and then tempered

Threads of all bolts are rolled

When the galvanized bolts are specified, the bolts are hot dip zinc coated in accordance with the requirements for Class C of ASTM A153

The suitable grades and surface finishes of nut and wahser for each type of bolt are as follows:

1 Scope

Japanese Industrial Standard B 1186 specifies the sets of high strength hexagon bolts, hexagon nuts and plain washers mainly used for friction _ su *

grip joints of steel structures, :

Misuboshi Industries, Ltd has rich experiences of over 25 years in

producing these high strength bolts since 1957 and the high strength ¬ ca

bolts branded as NKYM are enjoying ever increasing Teputation among engineering and architectural people in building and bridge construction industries

The set shall be composed of one high strength hexagon bolt, one high

strength hexagon nut and two high strength plain washer -

2 Classes and Grades

The Classes in combination with the grades according to mechanical properties of the constituting parts shall be as given in Table 1

3 Material

'

The material for bolts, Nuts and Washers shall be such that the products

comply with the mechanical requirements of 4

Mitsuboshi Industries, Ltd uses several kinds of steel described in’

Table 2, which were specially produced by the high level controlled furnace of Nippon Kokan K.K and Nakayama Steel Works, Ltd for high strength bolts, nuts and washers

These steels have a best heat-treatability and a good durability against delayed fracture of the bolts
