Word inserts a header and footer on every page in the document You can create a unique header and/or footer for the first page and then insert different headers and/or footers on subsequent pages In some situations you may want the first page header or footer to be blank This is particularly useful if a document contains a title page and you not want the header or footer to print at the top or at the right side is generally numbered with an odd page number and the page at the left side is generally numbered with an even page number You can create odd and even headers and/or footers to provide this type of page numbering Use the Different Odd & Even Pages check box in the Options group on the HEADER & FOOTER TOOLS DESIGN tab to create odd and even headers and/or footers new section on the next even-numbered or odd-numbered page If you want the pages in a document to have different headers and/or footers, divide the document into sections When you create sections for each chapter in a document, insert a section break for each chapter that begins a new page © Paradigm Publishing, Inc 22 Objectives Objectives Insert Headers and Footers continued     When a header or footer is created for a specific section in a document, the header or footer can be applied to all of the previous and subsequent sections or only the subsequent sections By default, each section in a document is linked to the other sections If you want a header or footer to print on only specific pages in a section and not pages in the previous or following sections, you must soft page break can also create a widow or orphan A widow occurs when the short last line of text in a paragraph appears at the top of a page, and an orphan occurs when the first line of text in a
