Every year, there are million incidents of shooting, trapping and poisoning wildlife animals around the world The Wildlife and Forest Crime Analytic Toolkit was prepared by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the support of the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), the World Bank and the World Customs Organization (WCO) Together, all five agencies form the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICCWC) The Toolkit is designed mainly to assist government officials in wildlife and forestry administration, Customs and other relevant enforcement agencies It will help them to conduct a comprehensive analysis of possible means and measures to protect wildlife and forests and monitor their use and thus, to identify technical assistance needs This Wildlife and Forest Crime Analytic Toolkit is organized into five parts: Investigation procedures and techniques Wildlife and forest crime scene work There are different types of crime scene, which may influence the value of different types of forensic evidence For example, consider the illegal shooting of a bird of prey: • The body may be found at the location where it was shot; • The bird may not have died immediately and flown to another locus and died; • The bird may have been shot and killed then transported by a suspect to another location where later found
