Hộp số sàn (manual transmission)

Đặc điểm chính của hộp số tay là người phải tự chuyển số bằng pê – đan côn (li hợp) và cần số trên sàn xe. Ưu điềm: Hộp số tay có giá thành rẻ (rẻ hơn hộp số tự động khoàng 1000 USD), bảo dưỡng đơn giản hơn và ít tốn kém hơn. Hộp số tay nếu được sử dụng thích hợp có thể hoạt động hàng trăm nghìn km và dùng hộp số tay thì chúng ta sẽ tiết kiệm được khoản thay dầu vì hộp số này không yêu cầu thay dầu định kỳ. Số tay tiết kiệm 5 – 15% nhiên liệu so với số tự động và số tay tạo cảm giác dễ chịu cho người dùng khi muốn hạn chết sức mạnh của động cơ. Nhược điểm: Hộp số tay khiến bạn mất thời gian để học cách điều khiển tay gạt sang số. khi bạn di chuyển trên những đoạn đường dốc thì hộp số tay sẽ gây bất tiện bởi nó không giống như hộp số tự động. Ngoài ra, nó làm cho chân bạn khó chịu và lâu dần sẽ ảnh hưởng tới khớp của bạn.
