Week 19 Date of prepare: 04/01/09 Date of teach:06/01/09 Unit 9 : A first-aid course P55: lesson 1: getting started- listen and read I/Objectives : By the end of the lesson , Ss will be able to know what they would do in the situations which require first-aid. II / Language content: a)Knowledge: Vocabulary: ambulance( n ) , emergency( n ) , wound(n) bleed ( v) conscious(adj) Grammar: b) Skills: listening, reading. III /Teaching aids : Text books , chalk and some pictures IV/ Teaching method: Pair work, group work, individual V/ Procedure : 1. Warm up : * Getting started Kim s game’ - Ask Ss to open their books and look at the things on page 80 (for 20’’). Tell them these things are often used for first-aid - Divide the class into two groups - Ask Ss to close their books and go to board to write the names of the things they’ve just seen from memory.( either in English or Vietnamese) - Tell them the group having the most right English words is the winner - Have Ss open the books again and go through the words in English Answer Key: 1. Emergency room 2. bandage 3. absorbent cotton 4. medicated oil 5. ice 6. water pack 7. alcohol - Ask Ss to discuss and write down what they would do in these situations which require first-aid - Call on some groups to give their answer and correct Possible answer: + A girl has a burn on her arm - Use cold water/ice to ease the pain + A boy has a bad cut on his leg – Alcohol/medicated oil and bandage(sterilize dressing) + A girl has a nose bleed – Use a handkerchief to stop the bleeding/tell her to lie down 2. Pre reading– Introduce the aims and contents of the lesson to Ss . What are they talking about?” * Predict quickly a. describing the condition of the injured person. b. asking for address. c. asking about the condition of the injured person. d. asking for advice e. giving first aid instructions f. arranging for an ambulance. g. saying injured person’s name - Ask Ss to listen and read then decide the statements are true or false . - Write their predictions on the board 3. While reading– : - Turn on the tape (2 or 3 times ) - Ask Ss to read the dialogue again and select the topics covered in the dialogue - Call on Ss to read their answers aloud . - Remark and correct mistakes if any . - Give correct answers : Answer key a, b, c, e, f 4. Post reading– : * Exercise : Fill in the gap with most suitable word. "There was an emergency at Lan's school. A student ______ off her bike and hit her head on the road. Warm up: - Ask Ss to match Matching situation need 1.Have a bad cut. a. Warm up: Net work. First - aids burn cut, bee sting, snake bite, fainting, shock, nose bleed. 2. Pre- reading Today, we have a lesson about how to give first aids to some situations requiring first- aid such as shock,fainting or burn - Play game 5 New words - lie flat ( v ) nằm thẳng - elevate ≠ lower ( v ) n©ng cao - victim ( adj ) ( person who needs first-aid) - overheat ( v ) ( make s.th too hot ) - tissue damage ( n ) sự hư hại tế b o ( m«)à - ease = lµm dÔ chÞu, bít ®au - fainting(n): ngÊt xØu, chãng mÆt - revise(v): sèng l¹i, tØnh l¹i - Check vocab: Rub out and Remember - Ask Ss to predict the statement is true or false 1.
