UNIT 14: THE WORLD CUP SECTION A: READING

I Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- Gain more knowledge about the biggest football event on the world – the World Cup

- Know more about the history of the World Cup

- Learn more vocabulary, both meaning and pronunciation

- Improve their reading skill

II Teaching Method: Communicative approach.

III Teaching Aids: Textbook, handouts, pictures, extra board, etc.

IV. Procedure:

1 Warm up:

- Ask Ss watch a video

- Ask Ss some questions:

1 Can you tell me the name of this event?

2 Where was the 2002 World Cup held?

3 Which team became the champion then?

- Give some information about World Cup

2002 and lead in the new lesson

- Work individually

- Listen carefully the questions and answer

- Introduce some new words:

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- Develop such listening micro- skills as intensive listening for specific information and talking notes while listening

- Listen and talk about other the World Cup, especially about Pelé – a very legendary football player

II Teaching Method: integrated, mainly communicative.

III Teaching Aids: Textbook, handouts, lesson plan, CD players.

IV. Procedure:

1 Warm up:

- Prepare 5 pictures of football stars and

5 name tags

- Divide the class into 4 groups

- Ask 4 groups to match these four

football stars with their name tags They

have 3 minutes to decide which name

tag to match with each of football star

- Ask Ss to look at the picture about
