English for the Global Workplace Student’s Book, Module 1 aims at learners who study English from beginning to elementary level and target the TOEIC test

scores of 250 points It provides material for approximately 60 hours of teaching This book is specifically suitable for:

personnel who use English in real-life work settings, such as businesses, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, international meetings,

conventions, and sports events;

managerial, sales, and technical employees in international business, commerce, and industry who require English for their worl;

individuals who are preparing to enter the workplace; candidates for training to be conducted in English; and individuals in English-language training programs

English for the Global Workplace Student’s Book, Module 1 comprises five units, targeting at training students to reach the the TOEIC test scores of

250 points

Each unit is divided into two sections consisting of approximately ten hours of classroom material

Each sections is made up of:

Warm up that leads students to the topic,

Reading that introduces and trains students in general skills needed

for their reading ability development and for the TOEIC test;

Grammar that focuses on grammatical phenomenon of the unit

with practice activities;

Listening that introduces and trains students in general skills needed

The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) was originally

designed to test the English proficiency levels of people working in an intemational

environment However, the TOFIC test has proven to be such a reliable measure of a lest-taker’s English language skills that it is now used for academic admissions, for ; placement purposes and for measuring achievement More than 5 million TOEIC tests wore administered in 2008 And, for 30 years, TOEIC test scores have helped thousands of corporations, educational institutions and governments throughout the

world recruit, hire and promote the most qualified candidates

The TOEFIC test scores indicate how well people can communicate in English with others in business, commerce, and industry The test does not require specialized knowledge or vocabulary beyond that of a person who uses English in everyday work activities

The TOEIC test is a two-hour multiple-choice test that consists of 200 ï questions divided into two sections:

* Listening Section: The Listening section tests how well a candidate

understands spoken English It consists of four parts and contains 100:

questions The candidate will be asked to answer questions based on a

variety of statements, questions, conversations, and talks recorded in

English The total time is approximately 45 minutes

= Reading Section: The Reading section includes three parts, testing how well a candidate understands written English The candidate will read a

variety of materials and respond at his own pace to 100 questions based
