Một lý do nữa khiến nhiều thí sinh gặp thất bại trong các đề thi TOEIC đó là vốn tự vựng của họ quá ít chỉ ở mức giới hạn. Khi quyết định tham gia kỳ thi thì thí sinh cần chắc chắn rằng họ có một vốn từ vựng phong phú về nhiều lĩnh vực khác nhau. Lời khuyên tốt nhất là người học nên có một cuốn sổ tay nhỏ và viết tất cả các từ mới vào đó. Không nên học từ mới theo một danh sách các từ. Vì bạn chỉ có thể nhớ được từ vựng một cách tốt nhất và dễ dàng nhất chỉ nhờ vào ngữ cảnh của từ. Do vậy với mỗi một từ bạn gặp trong quá trình học hãy viết từ đó và học từ đó trong câu. Sau mỗi tuần học, bạn nên viết một bức thư hoặc bài luận ngắn và sử dụng tối đa các từ mà bạn học trong một tuần đó.
