Having a car has become an essential part of many people’s lives. It offers flexibility to their life and work, and also provides ready access to a variety of services and leisure options. However, a range of problems have been identified and need to be addressed. The problems associated with frequent cars use are becoming increasingly familiar to the general public. The widespread use of cars has real environmental costs. Vehicles are major sources of urban air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. It is reported that road traffic is the source of one third of all harmful air pollution in the world. Car exhaust contributes to acid rain, carbon dioxide and lead, which cause global warming and damage human health. Traffic jam is another problem. As more and more people drive to work rather than walk, cycle or take public transport, there are heavy traffic jams almost every day at rush hours. The most serious problem, however, is safety. Car accidents cause huge numbers of casualties every year. To solve these problems, some people suggest that the government should impose a strict restriction on the use of cars, but I do not think this is the best option, because this would lead to reduced mobility for people and a decline in the car industry. I think a better solution would be for car manufacturers to design more environmentally friendly cars, which run on solar power or hydrogen. Also, traffic problems can be alleviated by building more underground tunnels and parking garages, and safety problems can be avoided by educating drivers as well as pedestrians to use greater caution on the road. Hence, in conclusion, I think that while discouraging the car use might seem a quick solution to many problems currently facing the society, it is most unlikely to be a permanent cure. ARGUMENTS for IELTS WRITING TASK 2 TITLE: IN SOME COUNTRIES, TEENAGERS HAVE JOBS WHILE THEY ARE STILL STUDENTS. DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE? *** LUẬN ĐIỂM AGREE (FOR): 1. The main purpose of public libraries is to provide books, and they shouldn’t waste their limited resources and space on providing expensive hi – tech media such as computer software, videos and DVDs. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement? In a traditional sense, libraries are places with a large collection of books. However, the digital age has given today’s libraries new means of storing and retrieving information on media other than the printed pages. CD – ROMs, videos and DVDs are widely used in public libraries, and they serve both the libraries and the readers. Opponents of high – tech library would argue that multimedia facilities are expensive. This may be true to some extent because a DVD player is often more expensive than a bookshelf. However, with immense storage capacity, these new high – tech media can actually save the most valuable resource – space. A computer disc 12 cm in diameter can store a whole encyclopedia Britannica which, in printed volumes, would occupy a complete shelf section. Furthermore, magnetic and digital media can store information much longer than traditional means. It takes great care to protect books from moisture, fire or human damage, and a book in a library serves readers for only a few hundred years. However, digital files, easily duplicated and restored, can perhaps last forever. Finally, visiting a library with multiple media access is much more interesting. Multi – media resources offer readers a dynamic combination of images, sounds and videos. A reader can actually hear Martin Luther King crying out “I have a dream”, or roam about the world with an interactive atlas. *** Cách diễn đạt sự nhượng bộ This may be true to some extent … However … The three pie charts below show the changes in annual spending by a particular UK school in 1981, 1991 and 2001. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. A glance at the three given graphs reveals some differences among the expenditures per year of a British school in a period of three years: 1981, 1991, 2001. Overall, it can be seen that there are many trends that are obviously illustrated in those charts: upward, downward and both upward and downward. The changes of those features can be divided into two main groups on account of their trends: single trend and couple trends group. Starting with the first group, insurance and other workers’ salaries, in 1981, the insurance only took two percent of total, however, in twenty years later, the number experienced a considerable growth of six percent to eight percent. Unlike the insurance, the salaries of other workers witnessed a respective drop from approximately thirty percent to a mere fifteen percent in about twenty years. Moving on to the second group, it can be seen that both teachers-salaries’ and resources’ proportions significantly fluctuated. In the first ten years of the period, the numbers rose five and ten percent to reach fifty and twenty percent, however, slipped dramatically in the next years from fifty to forty five and from twenty to a mere nine percent. In contrast, furniture and equipment spending first experienced a decrease and then quickly climbed from five percent in 1991 to twenty percent, a growth of eighteen percent. It is interesting to note that through approximately twenty years, the total spending on different things of this UK school changed considerably. The diagrams show a structure that is used to generate electricity from wave power. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words. The given graph shows/ illustrates the structure and processes of generating electricity from the wave power. As is observed from the presented illustration, the wave is used to produce the electricity and both the tide and ebb the structure is used to rotate a turbine to produce the electricity. As can be seen from the given pictorial, the electricity producing machine works in two ways. Firstly, the structure is places near a sea so that the wave water gets inside the chamber and creates an air pressure that would rotate the turbine placed inside a column. The rotation of the turbine produces electricity which is stored in the cells and this electricity can be passed and used. The whole structure is placed near the sea, adjacent to a cliff or sea wall. The second illustration depicts how the electricity can be produced using the ebb tide of the sea. During the ebb, the water gets off from the chamber and the air pressure is created again from the opposite direction and this rotates the turbine. The rotation of the turbine produces electricity and supplies it to the storage. In summary, the electricity can be produced using a structure near the sea and both the tide and ebb tide is used to rotate the turbine to produce the electricity. You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. The diagram shows how tea leaves are processed into five tea types. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words. The diagram presents the manufacture of five different types of tea. It is immediately apparent that although all the teas are produced from the same leaf, the differences in the manufacturing process result in five different types of tea. The first three stages of manufacture are the same for all of the five teas. The leaves are grown, they are then plucked, and following this withering of the leaves occures. The final stage is also the same, which sees all the leaves dried in an oven. However, in the stages in between this, differing methods of production are employed. To begin, white tea is unique as it involves no other processing. In contrast, green, oolong and large leaf black tea are all rolled as part of the process. However, while green tea is steamed before being rolled but is not fermented, the other two teas are first rolled and then both fermented (oolong only slightly but large leaf black completely). Finally, small leaf black tea is neither steamed nor rolled, but is crushed before being fully fermented. You should say: When you last played the game Who you played it with How you felt when you played it Explain why you enjoyed it. A game that I ‘ve ever played and enjoyed is “Who is Millionaire” – a game online. I played it every day after finishing my homework with my roommates. We had to think and answer all questions together. The rules of the game are very simple. Players have to answer 15 questions in turn and they will certainly receive a bonus for each of the right answers. If they have correct answers from 1 to 15, they will win a bonus of 120.000 points. There are three helps. The first is 50/50, the second is to make a phone call to relatives and the third is to ask the audience. When I played it, I felt very excited and interested. I wonder if the answer choice is right or wrong. I like to play it very much because it’s very good for improving brainpower. It teaches us how to make decisions and allows us to make the right decision in life. Playing “Who is Millionaire” also increases our knowledge and helps us to learn something new. Moreover, it helps me to relax after school so I really love it. IELTS SPEAKING PART 2: Describe an exciting piece of news you received. You should say: What type of news it was How you received it and who told you Where you were when you received the news And mention how you reacted when you got the news and what you did afterwards. I’m going to tell you about some really exciting news that I received about a year ago, when my niece, Sophia, was born. It was summer time, so it was very hot, and my sister was sick and tired of being pregnant – she was very big by this stage, and the hot weather was extremely uncomfortable for her. Anyway, the baby was about a week overdue, and the whole family was anxiously awaiting its arrival. It was a weekday and unbelievable not. Then, in the middle of the afternoon, I received a phone call on my mobile phone from m brother-in-law to tell me that they had had a baby girl! I wasn’t surprised, but I was absolutely thrilled! He had been calling all the immediate family and was quite emotional, but I couldn’t talk to my sister as she was sleeping. I was teaching a class when he called me, and when he told me the news, I felt so emotional as well. In fact, I felt like crying little bit, but I didn’t really want to burst into tears in front of all my students, so I stepped into the corridor and had a quite moment by myself. I had to leave school quickly as I wanted to get to the hospital to meet my new niece as soon as possible. Luckily, my students were very understanding, and another teacher stepped in to teach them for the afternoon. It was nice to receive a phone call for this type of news as it is so special. You don’t want to hear about it on e-mail or something! Or Facebook – that’s often how people get news these days. No, I’, glad that they decided to call people and tell them because its so much more personal. So, that’s the exciting news that I received, and I’ll never forget that special day.
