Trang 4Part 2: Read the article about unusual hobbies Five sentences have been removed from the article Choose from the sentences A-F the one which fits each gap (6-10) There is one extra sentence which you do not need to use Write your answers in the numbered boxes.
A- Nearly everybody has a hobby, don’t they?
B- She says that it all started when she had her thirteenth birthday
C- Now, you may think that’s crazy and you could be right
D- Activities such as stamp collecting, fishing or dancing are typical examples
E- Her bedroom is full of them
F- What makes it exciting, though, is the fact that it’s rather dangerous
We have all had a hobby at some time or other and if we really enjoy the hobby, it can become a lifetime interest Most people’s hobbies are quite normal (6) However, for some people these hobbies aren’t exciting enough and they look for something more exciting
One hobby, which is becoming more popular and is definitely exciting, is Parkour A French teenager, David Belle, started it about 15 years ago It’s a kind of gymnastic (7) If you want to be safe when doing a hobby, this one is not for you! You may have seen young people on TV doing it Basically, Parkour involves finding new ways of moving across a city – jumping and climbing – often from high building You need to have good balance to do it and it takes a lot of training to learn As part of the learning process, you are taught how to do Parkour safely and sensibly
Collecting things may seem to be quite an ordinary hobby, but it can be unusual, depending on what you collect One example of a unique collection is Joe Orville’s cheese collection! At the moment, he has collected over 300 kinds and the number is growing quickly (8) How can somebody collect something which will smell so bad after a while? Joe has the answer – he has a very large freezer, where he keeps all the different kinds of cheese He says that he will never open or eat any of them; he just wants to try and find as many different cheeses as possible
Another collector who you would probably agree has an unusual collection is Janet Waite She likes pigs and collects any kind of toy pig or anything that has a picture of a pig on it (9) _ Janet’s painted it pink too, so that it really is the best place to keep the collection On her shelves there must be about 50 pigs – small ones, fat ones, big ones and funny ones By her bed there is a pig lamp and her bed cover has a large picture of a black and white pig If you stay in Janet’s room for too long, you’ll probably start to dream about pigs!
One last example of an unusual hobby is Josie Curley’s She makes special party hats for her friends and family (10) _ She wanted to make her party special and came up with the idea of making a hat for everybody she invited She chose the number thirteen as the theme for her hats and made small paper hats with a large thirteen in different colors on the top Her friends like them so much that she has made hats for quite a few parties She’s even thinking about starting a hat business
So you see hobbies may just be for fun or a good way to exercise your hobby, but who knows? Your hobby may make you money in the future, too!

Trang 5Part 3: Read the following passage and choose the correct answer (A, B, C or D) to each of the questions that follow Write your answers in the numbered boxes.
BODY LANGUAGE According to surveys, people consider speaking in public more stressful than any other
task Communication experts have studied public speakers and their audiences to learn what
makes a speech effective They have discovered that while choosing words of a speech
carefully is important, the body language used during the speech is also vital to its success
Researchers estimate that at least seventy-five percent of communication occurs through non-verbal language This means that the actions of a speaker’s body during a speech will
determine how audience responds to the words spoken
Research indicates that the first things noticed by the audience are the speaker’s eyes
and facial expressions People will think that a speaker who always looks at the floor and
never smiles is unfriendly An effective speaker will look directly at the people in the audience
and will use facial expressions that match the tone of the speech An experienced speaker
knows when to smile at the audience and when to display a more serious expression.
The speaker’s posture is the second-most noticed aspect of body language A)
Speakers may deliver their speech either standing or sitting If a speaker sits, research shows it
is important to sit up straight B) Similarly, when a speaker stands, it is important that he or
she stands up straight while looking relaxed C) A strong speaker will stand up straight with
both feet on the floor and lean slightly toward the audience A speaker who slouches signals
that he or she is not interested in the subject or does not respect the audience D)
Finally, a speaker’s gestures can impact the effectiveness of a speech Gestures are the ways in which hands and arms are used to communicate The best advice for the inexperienced
speaker is to do nothing with the hands Either rest them on the podium or clasp them behind
the back Studies show that speakers should avoid folding their arms across their chests
because the audience interprets this gesture as a challenge.
Studies in communication show that body language used during a speech is as
important as the words spoken In summary, how something is spoken is just as important as
what is spoken Communication experts suggest that inexperienced speakers practice and
rehearse their body language in the same way they would write and practice the words They
recommend practicing in front of the mirror first and then with a small group of friends
