C Listening

I Objectives.

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

- develop such listening micro-skills as intensive listening for specific information and taking notes while listening

II Teaching aids.

- Textbooks, pictures

III Anticipated problem.

- Ss may not have sufficient vocabulary to talk about the topic, so T should be ready to assist them Ss may not also be familiar with the note-taking task so T should provide them some tips to deal with the task

Guessing game: “Who are they?”

- T gives Ss some suggestions about 4 famous footballers in the world:

1 Pele

+ He is a Brazilian footballer During his career, he became known as “The

King of Football”

+ Picture of Pele

2 Diego Maradona

+ He is an Argentinian footballer He was awarded the Golden Ball in the

1986 World Cup

+ Picture of Maradona

3 Zidane

+ He is a French footballer During his career Zidane was awarded “FIFA

World player of the Year” three times (in 1998, 2000, 2003) In World Cup

2006, he was awarded the Golden Ball

+ Picture of Zidane

4 David Beckham

+ He is an English footballer He was the captain of the English national

football team from late 2000 to mid 2006

+ Picture of David Beckham

- T asks Ss to guess “who they are” and asks Ss “Who do you like best?

why?”

- T introduces the topic: “You are going to listen about the World’s most

famous footballer, Pele.”

Activity: Pre-teach vocabulary

- T gets Ss to look at the new words on p.147 of the textbook:

+ goal-scorer /gəul 'skɔ:rə(r) / (n) người ghi bàn

+ hero /'hiərəu/ (n) anh hùng

+ ambassador /æm'bæsədə(r)/ (n) đại sứ

+ kick /kik/ (v) đá

+ retirement /ri'taiəmənt/ (n) sự về hưu

- T plays the tape once for Ss to listen to how these words are said and then

repeat after the tape (or T) T gets some Ss to read the words again

WHILE YOU LISTEN

Task1:

- T introduces the task and gets Ss to study the table before they listen

- T reminds Ss to take note and not to write down all sentences

- T plays the tape once for Ss to listen and fill the table

- T gets Ss to work in pairs and check each other’s answers

- T plays the tape again if Ss can’t complete the task (T can pause at

difficult points.)

- T asks Ss to read through all the questions before listening and predict the

answers

- T asks if Ss remember anything about Pele from the previous listening

- T plays the tape again

- T gets Ss to check their answers with a partner T checks with the whole

class T should play the tape again and pause at difficult points if Ss can’t complete the task

information they have learned in Tasks 2&3
