Lesson planning

Class’ details: Grade 10 students

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use conditional sentence type 2 appropriately

Teaching aids: text book, blackboard, and poster

activities 8’ Warm up - Gives Ss some funny questions and asks

Ss to answer them:

1, Where does June come before May?

2, What comes twice in a moment, once in

a minute but never in one hundred years?

3, What is it that was tomorrow and will

be yesterday?

4, Which 4 letters would frighten a thief?

- Gives correct answers:

1, In the dictionary

2, Letter “M”

3, Today

4, O, I, C, U

- Answer the

questions actively

10 Presentation - Gives examples:

+ Ba is very poor man He doesn’t have enough money to buy a house He says “If

I had much money, I would buy a house”

+ Peter drives very fast His girlfriend says

to him “If I were you, I would drive more carefully”

- Reads aloud the examples 2 times

- Asks all Ss to repeat

- Calls some Ss to read aloud

- Copy the examples into notebook

- Repeat after

- T elicits the form, meaning and use of conditional sentence type 2

+ Form:

If clause , main clause S+past simple, S +would+V(bare infi)

+ Usage:

Conditional sentence type 2 is used to talk about things which are unreal (not true, not possible)

* Note: with tobe, we use “were” for all subjects

- Asks Ss to copy all of these into their notebook

- Copy into notebook 13’ Practice: * Lucky number game: ( exercise 3)

- Divides class into two teams and gives 10numbers, some of them are lucky numbers When Ss choose a number they have to carry out ask in this number and have 2 points If the team has wrong answer, another team will answer and receive 1 point If a team chooses the lucky number, they will have 2 point without doing anything and they continue choosing another number After 10

numbers, the team having more points wins

- Gives time for Ss to play game

- Corrects mistakes if Ss have

- Shows the winner

- Asks Ss to listen and read again (3 times)

- Ask Ss to copy into your notebook

- Makes teams

- Play the game in group work

- Listen and read (whole class)

- Copy the answer

* Divides class into pairs( 1, 2; 1, 2; …) and ask Ss to work following given model:

“What would you do if you had one billion dollars?

If I had one billion, I would share it for the poor.”

- Gives some guides:

+ become President of America + meet a ghost

- After 2 minutes, calls some pairs to read their sentences

into notebook

- Make pairs

- Work in pair to make sentences

- Read aloud their sentences

12’ Production: *Chain game

- Divides class into 2 teams

- Introduces the game:

+ A team makes a conditional sentence type 2

+ Another team makes another sentence beginning with the main clause of the sentence made by that team

+ Continue until a team can not make a sentence or make a wrong sentence

- Checks the students’ understanding +Gives the second conditional sentences:

“If I had much money, I would buy a new car.”

+Asks Ss to make another conditional sentence type 2 such as:

“If I bought a new car, I would go

- Make teams

everywhere I want.”

- Gives time for Ss to play game

- Listens and corrects Ss’ mistakes

- Shows the winner

- Play the game in group work

2' Wrapping - Summarizes the main points

- Asks Ss to do the exercises in workbook

at home
