Lead in: we are going to listen to the - Listen and answer - Listen to the teacher talking about how the New Year celebrated in Japan BEFORE YOU LISTEN: (6 minutes) - Lets students work in pairs to guess which of the activities the Japanese often do on their New year’s Day -Calls some students to give their answers and write them on the boards -Introduces some new words from the listening passage While you listen: (24 minutes) Task 1: Instruction: You are going to listen to two people talking about how the New Year is celebrated in Japan. Listen and tick (√ ) the things you hear. Before Ss listen and do the task, T asks them to read through the statements to understand them and underline key words. For example, the key words in the first statement are: put on, special, clothes T plays the tape once for Ss to do the task. T plays the tape the second time for Ss Work in pairs and each pair works in role Listen to the teacher Look at the picture in the book and guess before listening -Listen carefully - Work individually - Read through the statements to understand them and underline key words. - Listen to the tape and pay attention to the key words - Tick the things they hear in the appropriate boxes. - Give corrects to check their answers. T asks Ss to work in groups of 4 to compare their answers. T checks Ss’ answers by calling on some Ss.
