Lesson Plan 25(grade 11 – advanced) Period : 25 Preparation date : 17/10/2011 Unit : 4 Lesson : Volunteer work and literacy programs ( Reading) I. Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to scan reading for specific information. - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to skim reading for general ideas. II. Lexical items : - volunteer - first – hand - remedial - conduct - literacy - benefit - hardship - interpersonal III. Structures : - Our main task was to teach beginners how to read and write - Every morning we conducted remedial courses for weak schoolboys. - Helping the community enables us to develop our interpersonal skills… IV. Teaching aids: - textbook - picture / drawings - chalk - handouts V. Techniques : - Skill – based ( reading, speaking) VI. Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. Warm- up & lead- in (3’) Games: word search - Give each St a copy the task below ( prepared on the photocopies) - Put Ss into groups of four - set a time limit of 5 minutes - ask Ss to complete the puzzle using the clues provide, and find out the missing word going down - as the time is up, get groups to hand in their results - award a point for each correct word an five Expected answers : 1. alive 2. port 3. example 4. amusing 5. nurse 6. let 7. expensive 8. desert 9. underground The missing word : VOLUNTEER photocopies points for the missing word going down. - the group with the most points will be the winner. - elicit the answers to the following questions from Ss. + What does it mean by “volunteer”? + have you ever done volunteer work? + what kind of volunteer work have you done.? Transition: In today’s reading section, we’ll learn about the activities that the student volunteers at Period 25 : Unit 4 : Volunteer work & Literacy programs - Reading Chalk and board.
