Read the passage and do the tasks that follow
The nine Pinutubi nomads had first left the desert over a week ago That was the day an ancient people’s way of life truly ended, and it marked the beginning of their journey to a new home
One of the main reasons the Pinutubi nomads left the desert was because strict tribal laws These laws prevent intermarriage within families With only one couple able to produce children, they faced extinction in the desert
They also had to leave their homeland because of the bores (deep holes made in the ground in order
to find water) which their relatives were sinking in the desert These bores are a source of constant water So much water in fact that there is no need for the nomads to wander in search of it any more
More than anything else, bores have killed the nomadic way of life which existed in central
century, and the Pinutubi are the latest to follow this trend Such permanent sources of water have eliminated the need for the nomadic methods of survival adopted in the past These water sources are
nomads is understandable
Another new bore in the area is scheduled to be operational next month, and the hope is that one will
be drilled every 15km into the desert in the future, providing the incentive for more nomads to settle
in one place So while the Pinutubi come to terms with their new way of life, other people who would prefer to continue living a nomadic existence are returning to the more remote lands from which their ancestors came They are being driven form their homelands by the success of bore sinking and our encroaching civilization
