WARM-UP “BINGO GAME” Group Game Together Again Goal Dog Uruguay Margaret Club Kick Cup Ticket School Because Complete weak Leading: the above words containing the two sounds we are going to study today Whole class T sticks a poster with many words on the board. T introduces the game and gives instruction. T asks each student to prepare a piece of paper and write down any four words from the ones on the poster. T reads out any words one by one. The student who has 4 among the ones T reads will say “Bingo” T checks and decides whether he is the winner or not. T leads to the pronunciation part. 10’ II. Pronunciation Listen and repeat /g/ /k/ Group Game Together Again Goal Dog Uruguay Margaret Club Kick Cup Ticket School Because Complete weak Practice these sentences: 1. Our group hasn’t scored a goal. 2. Uruguay will lose another game again 3. Margaret took the dog and the cat for a walk. 4. Can your school club complete in the text tournament. 5. He can’t kick the ball because he’s too weak. 6. He has got a ticket for the next World Cup in Germany. Whole class Pair work T writes the two sounds above the two columns of the poster she uses in warm-up. T models the two sounds two time and asks ss to repeat. T reads the words and asks ss to repeat in chorus to individually. T models the sentences two times and asks ss to repeat in chorus. T asks ss to put the correct sound above the words. T gets ss to work in pairs in three minutes to practice the sentences. T calls two ss to read the sentences. T corrects the mistakes if it’s necessary. 7’ 7’ III. Grammar  Presentation Situation: Minh: what are you doing, Lan? Lan: Today is An’s birthday. I think I’m going to give her a small cassette player. And you? Minh: I don’t know because I forgot her birthday. Does she have any Record? Lan: No, she doesn’t Minh: So, I will buy one for her. Guiding question: 1. In the second line, did the speaker plan to give her friend a small cassette player before she talked? 2. In the last line, did the speaker plan to buy a record before this conversation or during it? 3. How did you know?  Will Form: S + am/is/are + going to + V (bare- inf) S + Will + V (bare-inf) Usage: + “Going to” is used to express a future intention or decision thought about before the moment of speaking. + “Will” is used to make offers or predictions made at the moment of speaking.  Practice: Exercise 1: Underline the correct form of the verbs: 1. Tien’s restaurant (will open/ is going to open) Next Wednesday. 2. I think Hoa (will pass/is going to pass) the next exam because she has studied very hard. 3. Tuyet: I forgot bringing my textbook Whole class Individual work T sets the scene: “today is An’s Birthday so Lan is standing in a store to choose a gift for her friend. By chance, Minh come and and asks….” T sticks a poster with a dialogue containing “going to” and “will” T runs through the meaning of the conversation. T gets ss to explain why “going to” but not “will” is used the second line and “will” but not “going to” is used in the last line. T may want to guide ss by asking questions: T elicits from ss the difference between “going to” and “will” when talking about future intentions Then, T elicits the forms, meanings and uses of “will” and “going to” when talking about future intentions and writes on the board: T delivers handouts to ss. T introduces exercise 1. T runs through the meaning of some new words and asks them to do exercise 1 4’ individually. T calls some ss to write their answers on the board. T checks and gives suggested 8’ Linh: don’t worry, I (will lend/am going to lend) you mine. 4. My parents and I (will visit/ are going to visit) my grandparents on Thursday. 5. Tomorrow, it (will rain/ is going to rain). Answer key: 1.is going to open 2. will pass 3. will lend 4. are going to 5. it will rain Exercise 2: complete the sentences using will (‘ll) or going to. (Page 150) Example: A: why are you turning the television? B: I’m going to watch the news. (I /watch) A: Oh, I’ve just realized I haven’t got any money. B: Haven’t you? well, don’t worry. I will lend you some (I /lend). Suggested answers: 1. I’ll get 2. I’m going to wash 3. Are you going to paint? 4. I’m going to buy 5. I’ll show you 6. I’ll have 7. I’ll do Pair work answers. T gets ss to look at exercise 2 (exercise 1 page 150 in textbook) Before asking ss to do exercise 1, T asks them to look at the example to check whether ss can understand the structure they have just learnt or not. T models the first sentence to help ss understand more clearly. T asks ss to do exercise 2 in 5’ pairs and write their answers on their sub-board. 7’ Exercise 3: making offers or predictions with “will” or “won’t” using the words in the box 1. I ask my sister for some money, but I know she ……………… she’s really mean. 2. Minh: I’m dying for a drink. Lan: I ……………………….a cup of tea. 3. Don’t try that restaurant. I’m sure you…………… it 4. You feel hot? So, I ……………………. the door for you 5. I’m having my driving test soon, but I know ……………………. . I haven’t had enough lessons. 6. I don’t think you can carry all your heavy suitcases so I …………………. Them for you. Answer key: Group work T delivers handouts to ss. T runs through exercise 3 T gets ss to do exercise 3 in groups of four in four minutes and write their answers on sub- board. T calls some groups to sticks their sub-board on the board. T checks and gives expected answers: 1. She won’t lend me any money 2. I will make you a cup of tea. 3. You won’t like it. 4. I will open the door for you. 5. I won’t pass it. 6. I’ll carry them for you. 1’ IV. Homework Learn by heart the new grammatical point. Prepare for the next unit.
