Homework (1 min) UNIT 12: THE ASIAN GAMES Listening  Aims: - By the end of the lesson students will be able to: . Develop listening skill for specific and detailed information. . Use the acquired language and knowledge to talk about sports and sportsmen. - Time allotted: 45 minutes o Teaching method: Communicative approach o Teaching aids: Textbook, cassette tapes, pictures, handouts. PROCEDURE: Time Content Activities 1’ 0’ 5’ A. Stabilization. B. Check-up Can be omitted C. Warm-up The Whisper Game Group 1: Fencing Group 2: Volley ball Group 3: Table tennis Group 4: Cycling Group 5: Rugby - T establishes the new class order. - T checks attendance. - Ss stand up and greet the teacher. - The monitor responds - T asks Ss to divide the class into 8 groups. - T explains the game: “Each group stands in a line. T shows one of words on the card to the first student in the row. Ss pass the word a long teammates by whispering. The last person in the row runs quickly to the board and writes the word on the board”. - Ss play the game and go to the board to write the answer. 13’ Group 6: Boxing Group 7: Tennis Group 8: Shooting D. New Lesson I. Pre-listening: 1. Activity 1: Answer-question Look at the pictures in p.141 and answer the questions: a. Can you name the sport in each picture? b. Do you know who won the gold medal in these sports in the most recent Asian Games? 2. Activity 2: Pre-teach vocabulary Matching the words in A with their definition in B: A B 1. Land (v) /lænd/ 2. Task 1(p.142): Multiple choice -The group finishes in the shortest time and right will be winner. - T gives feedbacks and chooses the winner. - T asks Ss work in pairs to find the answers. - Ss work in pairs and answer the questions - T checks and gives feedback. *Feedback: -High jump- Swimming- Long jump- Gymnastics. -Lee Bong-ju, Ly Duc, Yuko, etc. -T gives some new words. -Ss finish the table and give the meanings of the words. *Feedback: 1-d; 2-c; 3-a; 4-e; 5-b - Ss listen and repeat the new words in individual and chorus. -T asks Ss to listen and repeat. 15’ 10’ Feedback: 1. He was born in Nghe An. Question 2: who is he? 1. He is a Braxinan who achieved the best player on the world in 1996, 1997, 2002 and 2 gold balls of Europe in 1997, 2002. 2. He plays for Real Madrid Club. 3. Look at the picture of him. Question 3: who is she? 1. She is called “The Queen of short marathon”. 2. She achieved a gold medal in 200 m for women in SEA Games 24. 3. Look at the picture of her. E. Homework - Ss read the questions and guess the answers. - Ss listen and do the tasks. And then checks their answers with their partners. - T plays the tape and stops if Ss hear one of words above. - T asks SS to read the questions through and identify key words an each questions. - T asks Ss to work in groups. - Ss choose the Star and answer the question in it. -Ss guess the answer to each question. - T plays the tape once for Ss listen and do the task. - T checks the answers with the whole class. - T divides class into 8 groups. - T asks Ss to work in group and explains the games Ss work in groups and discuss the questions. And then find out the famous sport stars that are shown in each suggestion. -T checks answers and gives feedback. Feedback: 1. Le Cong Vinh 2. Cristiano Ronaldo. 3.
