Writing a Profile (pd: 75 th ) Aim: By the end of the lesson, students learn how to write a profile based on prompts provided Teaching aids: Textbook and poster Procedure: Teacher s activities’ Students activities’ I. Warm-up: (7 minutes) Game: Who is who - Give Ss cues and ask them to speak out the correct musicians. - First cue: get 30 points, Second : 20, Third :10 1. An Thuyen + He was a famous army musician in Viet Nam. + He was born in Quynh Luu-Nghe An. + Thơ tình của núi, Chín bậc tình yêu, Huế thương, Neo đậu bến quª, Ca dao em và tôi were written by him. + If Ss still can t have the answer, show the picture of An’ Thuyen. 2. Pham Tuyen + He was born in 1930 in Hai Hung. + He wrote “Như có Bác trong ngày vui đại thắng” in 1975. + This is his potrait (show the picture of Pham Tuyen) 3. Tran Tien + He was born in 1947, into a rich family in Ha Noi. + Singer Tran Thu Ha is his daughter and Tran Hieu is his older brother. + Show the picture of Tran Tien - Lead in :Ask Ss who these people are (musicians) and what they have learnt about these people (date of birth/ place of birth/ family/ works/ death ) … II. Pre-writing: (15 minutes) * Vocabulary + compose (v) – composer (n) example Ex: Van Cao composed Tien quan ca in 1944.“ ” + artistic work (n): question What are songs, poems and paintings called? + talented (a): explain + appreciate (v): translation * Vocab check: R & R Task 1. Make up complete sentences - Ask student to read the prompts in task 1 (given) 1. Trinh Cong Son/ born/ February 28 th , 1939/ Dac Play game in team Look at the picture answer the questions - Listen and repeat - Copy down vocabulary - Read the promts Lac,/into/ poor family. Handouts to Ss . Have Ss work in pairs to do the matching (questions- information about Van Cao) and practice asking and answering about him. III. While-writing: (12 minutes) Task 2. Write-it-up - Ask students to write about the life story of Van Cao. - Let students work in groups (write on posters/ added boards) - Walk round and help students if needed. IV. Post-writing: (10 minutes) - Tell Ss to exchange their writing. - Pick one or two writing to give feedback to the whole class. (Introduce peer correction to Ss ) - Ask Ss to take notes of some typical mistakes. v. Homework: (1 minute) - Ask students to do Task 1 (textbook) and prepare Lesson E- Language Focus in advance. - Work in group of 4 - Representatives go to the BB to write the answers - Take notes - Look at the picture - Work in pairs - Write about the life story of Van Cao in groups - Exchange the writing and peer correction Van Cao was born in Nam Dinh on November 15 th , 1923, into a poor worker family. He composed music when he was very young. His first song was written in 1939 and he quickly became famous. He composed Tien Quan ca (National Anthem) in 1944. His artistic works included songs, poems and paintings. He died on July 10, 1995. He was known as a very talented musician and highly appreciated by Vietnamese people. - Take notes .
