LESSON PLAN Textbook: “Tiếng Anh 10” Unit 12: Music - Speaking 1. Class description: - Level: 10 th grade students - Class size: 47 4 boys 43 girls 2. Time: 45 minutes 3. Objectives: After the lesson, Ss will be able to: -Skill: ask and answer questions about music -Language ask information questions 4. Assumed knowledge: Ss have already known some expressions about music in reading lesson. 5. Anticipated problem(s) Ss may make noise during the lesson so T should calm them down 6. Teaching aids: - Textbook, chalk, duster - Visual aids: cards 7. Procedure Part Activities Timing Teacher (T) Students (Ss) Pre- speaking Task 1 - Ask Ss if they like music and instruct them to play a small game. Stick some cards which have names of kinds of music on the board. Ask Ss to listen to some pieces of music and guess the kind of music and arrange the cards in order they listen to. - Call 1 student to stand up and read the paragraph in textbook page 126. Ask all the class to listen to her/him and follow the reading. - help Ss to understand some words and - listen to T - listen to music and play the game - read the passage - listen to T’s 10 m 1 structures in the reading ( cheer somebody up, keep somebody happy, have the radio on, easy to listen to) - Ask Ss to work in pairs, asking and answering questions in task 1. - Call 4 pairs to stand up and make conversations. Answers = 1. She likes pop music 2. Because it keeps her happy 3. The Backstreet Boys 4. All the time explanation - ask and answer questions - make conversations in front of the class While – speaking Task 2 - Ask Ss to look at the table in the textbook and assign them the task: Work in a group of 3, ask and answer to get information to fill in the table. - Help Ss to know the question forms and suggested words: + What kind of music do you like? (folk music, pop music, R&B music, country music …) + Why do you like it? (relaxing, lyrical, helps me forget troubles, exciting, pleasant, peaceful…) + Which singer/ music band/ musician do you like best? + Which song do you like best? + When do you often listen to music? - Make the sample for Ss: Draw the table on the board and call 2 Ss to ask them. Fill in the table with information. - Look at the book and listen to T - Work with T - Work with T 18 m 2 - Ask Ss to work in their group. - Go around to help Ss if necessary - Work in group Post – speaking Task 3 - Assign the task: Some Ss will stand up and report what they have found about their partners. - T does the sample by looking at the table on the board and make some sentences so that Ss can know how to report. Focus on using “both…and ; ….but…” - Call 3 students to stand up to report - Ask other Ss if there is any mistake and help them to correct. - listen to T - listen carefully - stand up and report - contribute 12 m Homework (5 m) - Ask Ss if they have any questions - Ask them to write down a paragraph answering these questions “Which kind of music do you like best? Why?” 8. Evaluation: T comments on the lesson and on the Ss’ attitude. If possible, give mark to some students who contributed well during the lesson. 9.
