EXTRA EXERCISES

 Aims : helps Ss to review lesson they have already learn: cleft sentences and 4 sounds / pt/, / ps/, /bd/, /bz/

 Objectives : By the end of the lesson, SS will be able to:

- use correctly cleft sentences

- pronounce correctly 4 sounds / pt/, /ps/, /bd/, /bz/

 Teaching aids : lesson plan, handouts

 Procedure

* Warm up: ( 5’)

Play “ TAM SAO THAT BAN” game

- Sentence 1: It was TOM that helped

JERRY to rob many shops

- Sentence 2: It was TOM who helped

JERRY to rob many shops

- ask Ss: do you know “TAM SAO THAT BAN” game?

- say that today we will play “ TAM SAO THAT BAN”

game

- divide class into 2 groups, call 4 Ss in each group come

up the board and arrange them to stand away from their partners

- instruct the rule of the game

- the first member in each group will be showed a sentence by T, he/she will read and remember quickly the sentence, then tell in whisper to the second one

Step by step, the last one will write the full sentence on the board, which group finish firstly and correctly is winner

- ask Ss to play honestly to check their memorizing

- answer: ”yes”

- 4 Ss in each group come to the board and stand away from their partners

- pay attention carefully the rule of the game

Exercise 1 : Choose the word which contains

sound / pt /, / ps /, / bd /, or / bz / in each

sentence ( 6’)

Exercise 2: To underline Cleft sentences in

the passage ( 8’ )

It was a Monday morning that I could not

forget My girlfriend, Sushi dumped me It was

similar to the Monday morning that she and I

loved each other 3 months ago I remember that

the first time I met her There was a boy who

robbed her handbag while I was looking at her

It was the boy who wore a black T-shirt with the

words “Hip- Hop Clubs” I stopped him and

took the handbag back to Sushi

- stand in the end the class to observe Ss play game

- Time off, come to the board

to check

- Congratulate the winner, ask the whole class offer a big clap

- ask Ss to look at the sentence on the board, ask them to pronounce 2 words

“ stopped” and “ shops”

- feedback and say : “ To check how do you pronounce these 4 sounds, we will do exercise 1

- give handouts and ask Ss what do we do in this exercise

- explain the requirement

- ask Ss to do this activity individually, and then share with their partner

- ask Ss to show their answers

- feedback

- transform to exercise 2 by asking: “ Do you remember Cleft sentences structure?

- say: “ okay, to check whether you remember or not, we will move to Exercise 2

- ask Ss what will we do in this exercise

- explain exercise 2

- ask Ss to do by themselves

- 2 groups try to send and receive

information while another Ss encourage

- big clap to winner

- look at the sentence and pronounce 2 words
