CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

Currently, tourism is an industry that plays an extremely important role in Viét Nam's socioeconomic development strategy Many types of tourism are being exploited effectively such as spiritual tourism, island tourism, and notably ecotourism In Viét Namese, ecotourism is becoming one of the popular forms of tourism for tourists who love the combination of nature and indigenous culture, and especially ecotourism destinations

in Da Nang city

In recent years, awareness of ecotourism development in Da Nang in particular, and the country in general has had positive changes, creating many opportunities to compete and develop However, ecotourism still faces many challenges in the current fierce tourism market

By analyzing the current status and potential of ecotourism in Da Nang, this study will propose solutions so that ecotourism here can develop sustainably, attracting more tourists

in the future

1.2 Reasons for Choosing the Topic

In recent years, along with the development of the economic environment, the demand for tourism and entertainment has also increased Tourism is developing rapidly not only

in our country but around the world It is called " the smokeless industry" With the trend

of environmental protection in many economic sectors, environmental tourism, ecotourism, community tourism, etc are emerging in the tourism industry and this type of research and development is very essential Forms of community ecotourism are given high priority in tourism development strategies to bring common benefits to local communities

Ecotourism has become a trend that attracts the attention of many people This type of responsible nature tourism supports the goals of preserving the natural environment, indigenous cultural values, community development, bringing significant economic benefits and contributing to environmental protection natural school Contribute to the development of the tourism industry Especially tourism in particular and socio-economic development in general

Da Nang City is one of the most attractive destinations in Viét Nam, with many famous landscapes such as The Dragon Bridge, Ba Mountain, and Son Tra peninsula Research on the potential for developing Da Nang ecotourism will contribute to orienting the city's tourism activities and promoting local economic development Da Nang is considered one

of the fastest-growing cities in Viét Nam with many projects being implemented Research

on the potential for developing ecotourism in Da Nang will guide new projects and create changes for ecological development

The research focuses on the current status and potential of ecotourism development in

Da Nang City is on the need for substantial data and evidence However, due to geographical distance, lack of information collection and synthesis skills, the study will not

be able to provide the data completely and accurately

The study had many difficulties in finding reference sources It is necessary to clarify the concept of ecotourism due to being confused with other types of tourism development Besides, it is necessary to find reliable and authentic materials

The research project focuses on the current status and potential of ecotourism in Da Nang City, especially key island resorts such as: Tién Sa - Son Tra, Mo stream, Hoa Phu Thuan,

1.5 Significance of the Topic

Viét Nam is one of the countries with rich natural resources and a unique indigenous cultural heritage recognized by the world, creating favorable conditions for the sustainable development of ecotourism Tourism is currently a major economic force in Viét Nam The work of exploring the potential and exploiting island tourism not only contributes to Viét Nam's economy but also contributes to raising awareness protect the natural paradise of tourists in particular and the world in general

In recent years, Da Nang city with its beautiful beaches and diverse vegetation has been oriented and put into sustainable ecotourism development by the local government However, besides the positive changes that have been achieved, there are also many difficulties and challenges that need to be resolved soon Therefore, researching the current status as well as potential, thereby proposing some solutions to promote ecotourism development in Da Nang is extremely important and necessary

1.6 Research Objective

This research aims:

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 Literature review in the word

Around the world, ecotourism is gradually becoming a popular and popular type of tourism Ecotourism aims at recreational activities associated with nature, improving the lives of indigenous people while still demonstrating a sense of responsibility towards the human living environment These things are enough to show that ecotourism has the potential to develop sustainably, bringing many economic benefits (Seifi, F and Ghobadi, G., 2017)

Today, the appeal of tourism in general and ecotourism in particular has caused many countries to invest heavily in this field (Seifi, F and Ghobadi, G., 2017) Eco-tourists often come from Europe, North America, and Japan, with a freshness of about 35 to 65 years old (AS Girikallo, OR Payangan, Madris, AR Laba, 2019) Unlike regular tourists, eco-tourists are always willing to pay more generously and set lower expectations (Seifi, F and Ghobadi, G., 2017)

However, the exploitation of ecotourism only truly brings benefits when local authorities and ecotourism destinations have appropriate plans In addition to ensuring that the natural environment is not destroyed by tourism activities, ecotourism also needs to foster quality human resources, as well as ensure that ecotourism destinations meet standards for visitors experience (Ding, Mai truong du lich Viét Nam, 2009)

2.2 Literature Review in the region

Ecotourism in local communities has contributed to improving the efficiency of tourism activities, bringing many benefits to the community as well as helping the tourism industry develop more sustainably (Nguyễn Quyết Thắng and Nguyễn Văn Hóa, 2012) Recently, most ASEAN countries have promoted the development of this type of tourism and have achieved many achievements worthy of praise Community-based ecotourism is a way of organizing tourism that focuses on the environment, culture and society It is owned and managed by the community, allowing tourists to increase awareness and learn about everyday life (REST, 1997)

For countries in the region with community-based ecotourism activities, the experiences

of these countries are worth learning because their geographical, natural and socio-cultural conditions are quite stable Also in recent times, many ASEAN countries have also had to confront issues of unsustainable ecotourism development such as the destruction of the environment and ecosystem over a long period of time And to make ecotourism activities better, countries in the region have considered building appropriate management models with cultural characteristics and characteristics Establish local community organizations (KSM) to actively protect the environment through propaganda and introduction to tourists with maps, videos, etc

Some countries have been successful because they have attracted tourism businesses associations, and social organizations that are interested and responsible for ecotourism development As well as promoting ecotourism better, many countries also do other things such as investing and promoting tourist areas for the purpose of connecting the community, preserving local culture, etc

2.3 Literature Review in the nation/ city

To date, Viét Nam has very few ecotourism studies, investigations and plans Anumber

of studies have used theoretical research results to make statistics on ecotourism resources

on anational and territorial scale, as well as ecotourism practices of some countries around the world In addition, topics related to ecotourism exploitation in some typical regions of Viet Nam include national parks and nature reserves On the other hand, studies only focus

on theory and general research and have not delved into areas with potential for ecotourism development

Ecotourism in Viét Nam has four main characteristics: development based on the value

of nature and indigenous culture, environmentally sustainable management, environmental education and interpretation and contribution to efforts to preserve and develop the community

Therefore, it can be seen that the basic characteristics of ecotourism are based on the benefits of natural landscapes, indigenous culture, sustainable development efforts for the environment, culture and indigenous communities land

Except for some travel companies that have developed many ecotourism routes, mainly

in protected areas, ecotourism is still mainly managed by national parks There are very few benefits from ecotourism for conservation and local community development

In theory, from Viét Nam's practice, inheriting the views of domestic and international scholars, a general concept of ecotourism is proposed To reach a consensus on the concep: and nature of ecotourism, it must be based on the basic characteristics of natural and human resources

In reality, assessing the potential for ecotourism development and current orientations, strategies and solutions for ecotourism development depends on development trends and needs of domestic and international markets The goal of the research is to create ecotourism models suitable for each locality to exploit its potential, support the conservation and development of traditional cultural and natural heritage, reduce poverty and improve the quality of tourism improve community life

Da Nang is also famous for tourism thanks to many ecotourism areas and modern entertainment areas where customers can comfortably relax and participate in interesting activities Da Nang is known for tourist areas such as Ba Na Hills, Marble Mountains - Non

Nước and Linh Ứng Pagoda in Son Tra In addition to the strong development of the tourist areas mentioned above, Da Nang also develops other natural ecotourism areas, such as Mo stream and Hoa Phu Thanh waterfall slide

Hoa stream ecotourism area, a new destination in Da Nang, makes a deep impression on visitors when coming here (Tour Da Nang, n.d.)

With a nature reserve, Da Nang has much potential for developing ecotourism The rich ecosystem of Ba Na Nature Reserve - Nui Chua and Nam Hai Van Nature of Ba Na - Nui Chua has 626 species of animals and 793 species of plants In addition, this area has 26 rare genetic resources, containing 101 endemic plant species of Central Viét Nam (Nguyen, Natural Resources for Eco-Tourism Development in Da Nang City and Development Solutions)

The main ecosystems of this area are tropical forests and evergreen forests The diversity

of terrain contributes to creating a number of landscapes imbued with inherent environmental values, creating favorable conditions for ecotourism For camping, picnicking and exploring nature, Ba Na Hills, Mo stream, Hoa stream, Ngam Déi and Song Nam are great locations Furthermore, the climate here is special due to the diverse terrain Tourism is attracted by meandering streams and beautiful beaches, such as Tién Sa Beach,

My Khé Beach and Non Nuc Beach However, the inconvenient infrastructure makes the mode of operation mainly exploratory

2.5 Research Questions

CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY

3.1 Research Method

According to Luong Thi Ly & L6 Thu Thuy (Writing up research reports in tourism and hospitality, p9) “Quantitative method is used to stress precise measurements, statistical, mathematical, or numerical analysis of data obtained from surveys, questionnaires, and polls, as well as computational manipulation of previously gathered statistical data Quantitative method is based on the use of research instruments to collect data and analyze/measure; e.g questionnaires, experiment.”

The author’s principal quantitative research method-the most popular technique for gathering data-is used in this study

3.2 Subject and Scope of Research

Analyzing the current status and potential when exploiting ecotourism in Da Nang city

is the subject of the entire study, mainly focusing on analyzing challenges and opportunities when developing ecotourism in the coastal city Da Nang street

3.3 Respondents

As mentioned above, tourist destinations in Da Nang city are very famous That is why the majority of participants in this survey are domestic and foreign tourists because they are the ones who experience and use services at ecotourism destinations in Da Nang In addition, the author also conducted a survey with employees working at Da Nang ecotourism destinations

Survey participants were informed that the survey was completely anonymous and would be used for academic purposes only and that they should answer the questions based

on their opinions and personal experiences of ecotourism destinations

3.4 Data Gathering Procedure

Google Forms and Microsoft Word are the two main software programs used to collect and analyze data for the current status and potential of ecotourism in Da Nang City First,

a questionnaire will be created on a Google form to survey locals in the destination about their opinions on possible problems there After the survey, the data will be recorded in a

Google Form and analyzed using quantitative methods to produce the clearest and most accurate results

The research process began on October 28, the day the author arrived at the destination

to survey By November 15, the survey questionnaire had been created and all data had been collected since then This survey ended on November 18 and the author began to analyze the data collected after the survey and create a questionnaire

3.5 Data Collection Tool

Data collection tools are questionnaires provided in the appendix section The questionnaire includes 39 questions with 25 small rating scale questions focusing on 5 variables of the conceptual framework: willingness of community to participate, market demand, tourism impacts, socio-economic linkages to biodiversity conservation, site and infrastructure

The study is expected to explore the potential and propose the development of ecotourism areas in Da Nang
